On the one hand Android is open source so it should be free to use, modify and redistribute. But on the other hand, stock Android is THE best mobile os out there and other manufacturers like Samsung make a mess of stock Android and they push their own updates which totally ruins the interface. But then if Android is made semi open source as in only free to use and not modify then the devs who don't work for Google wouldnt be able to get their feet wet with Android, which would be a shame. I guess instead of suing each other, manufacturers should try and make better software, coz Samsung takes their phone as far away from stock Android as they possibly can, which would not be so bad if their software was good, but frankly Samsung software sucks, and all other manufacturers include a lot of bloatware. I have the pixel phone and it's just awesome, no bloatware at all. Google is the superior company like it or not, and instead of suing them, a more constructive way would be to develop better software.

Some people really don't read before posting.
Here: "competitors and manufacturers filed a complaint that Google is abusing its market dominance" - it doesn't say that it's European companies, and it doesn't say that the EU started the lawsuit. It could happen anywhere where there is a legal system. Let's wait and see what happens.
If you read the source too, you will see that the previous one was started by Disconnect, Aptoide and Yandex.

in order to use play store google force them to install all of their apps
thats why we get phones with 2-3 assistants, emails, music apps, gallery and so on
you see evwn if they dont install one stupid app like play books or newstand they cant use play store so you get your phone with 15 google apps thats how they promote their stuff and dont give a chance to the others

Not a surprise at all. Google has been worse than Microsoft when it comes to monopolistic practices. Chinese phones don't have access to Play Store because they don't bundle Google services because Google services doesn't work in China. It is also why Amazon Fire Phones do not have working Play Store.

When China was making an OS using AOSP and contracted Asus or Foxconn to build the hardware, Google told Asus or Foxconn it have to back out otherwise Google won't allow them to build Android phones.

Basically they are complaining they want to include "Playstore" and "Google services" (backbone apk required for Playstore and other Google apps to work), but not follow any other stipulations on how they want to modify Android.

It's a bit of a hypocrisy, because Android is open source so they are free to fork it however they like. But if they want to include Google services, then they should follow Google rules.
This is the same thing as suing Apple because Apple wouldn't allow third party phone manufacturers to put Applestore onto their phone. If you want to use Apple or Google proprietary services you should have to follow their terms.

I do understand it's a tough challenge because Applestore and Playstore are the biggest so they basically dominates, so they use their terms to control a monopoly. If your phone don't have either of these two app stores, not many people would be interested.

What the the EU could do is help make it legal so that while Google services and Playstore are not on the phone when sold, the user should be able to connect to the internet and download it and install it on their phone at their down discretion.

Well, definitely there is so much to say. But yes, basically with an extensional mirrored criteria, Apple would absolutely be the late next, and much more based on the relative criteria, indisputably!.

This is crazy. Android is free for OEMs to use so what's wrong with having Google services? They're often better than the manufacturer duplicate versions. This will just force Google to make OEMs to pay for android and the consumers will have to face the added cost

The start of the collapse of the smartphone market in the EU
Where smartphone companies can and are forced NOT to deliver ANY pre installed apps or other linked software.
User will have to download everything themselves.
You want android :) sure go ahead, you can't do anything with it but here it is.
Ow you want to download apps from the playstore ?
Sure no problem first go here than install the play service, than go there and download the playstore than create a google account and you can ...... hello are you still there ?

damn the EU really has a money shortage
