Anonymous, 11 Jul 2017All this talk about embedding a fingerprint sensor under glass is crap. The 2015 Sony Xperia Z... moreEXACTLY!
honestly, putting the finger print on the side is extremely useful and reliable. Front fingerprint readers are a totally no go, and on screen sensor will cost more money and more time and also it will be less accurate.

AnonD-39937, 11 Jul 2017face recognition is a bad joke, too slow, too unreliable, not usable in low-light, fingerprint... moreI don't think 3D facial recognition is really that slow, or bad.

It should be about the same speed or faster than the iris scanner in Samsung Galaxy phones. Consider the fact that iPhone has raise-to-wake function, so raise-to-wake function + 3D facial recognition will be really a good combination. Your phone unlocks quickly right after you raise your phone, which is faster than fingerprint scanner. Samsung Galaxy phones do not have built-in raise-to-wake function, as you may need a 3rd party app. So, basically the 3D facial recognition will be MUCH FASTER than the iris scanner in Samsung Galaxy phones if I am not wrong.

face recognition is a bad joke, too slow, too unreliable, not usable in low-light, fingerprint sensors are far superior.

All this talk about embedding a fingerprint sensor under glass is crap. The 2015 Sony Xperia Z5 and Z5 premium (EU and non-US versions) had side mounted fingerprint sensors on the power button. Why bother locating a fingerprint sensor on screen under glass when it only lessens usable space for other touch screen interactions? Just so because it seems hi-tech and futuristic? Well I call that sheer stupidity, sort of implementing a sophisticated, complicated solution to a non-existent problem. What's the problem with side mounted and back mounted fingerprint sensors? Both can achieve full face infinity displays and have the bonus of actually making the whole screen usable for all other touch screen operations/interactions (not related to fingerprint authentication). Is Apple this desperate to present something new in its recycled iphone designs and features? What a waste in R&D money.

What if... Qualcomm is trying to make Apple pay their royalties before they "can talk"... Because it looks like that royalties and court stories aren't good for any of them.

Apple, just forget it and make another copycat of the last generation. Just change the location of the antennas, that did the trick last time. And perhaps you could add a new feature called "downloading" and push it so hard that people will think it's 100% new and never seen before on any device ever.

Quick decisions without much time put into them can't be any good.
