The internal politics ruin the nokia. Nokians didnt find the fit working environment so didnt support MS business plan. Now Nokia has almost outsourced everything including their brand name .. hahahhaha. Outsourcing can help to reduce your cost and some risk.. but you have to run your business yourself not by somebody else..
Sales & Marketing- outsourced to HMD
Manufacturing- Foxconn
Logistics and operation- Almost to Accenture and third parties.
HR- 50% third parties
IT- 90% third parties

So guys its a outsourced or may be third party business not Nokia business

Nokia cannot win battle on android ground
    there are too many players.
    Success of Xiaomi is MIUI
and every other OEM are struggling somehow to stay alive
    Nokia should become an Omni-OEM
    Nokia E-Series handsets - running windows 10
Nokia C-Series handsets - running android [MIUI can be licensed if possible]
Nokia B-Series handsets - running tizen OS [basic handsets below $100]
betting 100% on windows or 100% on android is going to be a suicide again

KMB877, 19 Jul 2017I'm just wondering, why this chain Foxconn - FIH Mobile - HMD Global - Nokia Technologies. Al... moreFoxconn and its subsidiary, FIH Mobile, are the manufacturer and HMD Global is the company that markets the products and is responsible for software and support. Unlike some people think, making Android work properly on a certain SoC is not like installing Windows on a PC, but requires considerably more effort and software development.

Hardware design is a collaborative effort between HMD and Foxconn. So, HMD still needs hardware engineers and industrial designers, unlike for example Blackberry, which just fits their version of Android on hardware wholly designed by the Chinese TCL.

1st of all, companies looking for success, ms, nokia, apple, sam, etc...
if you hit what people want, you will got a good market share, so create a huge survey in big market's to get the suggestions, and make it hidden to start building what people want.
other wise, companies are working hardly to compete any other company.
              cheer,,

They should make a plastic cover smartphone with replaceable battery and non-android OS that works for at least 5 years. Then I will buy one. Until then, I'm happy with my Lumia 640.

For Nokia to be in the competition, they have to build their own chip or display, create their own OS, not just by collaboration with Google & Foxconn. I think it's not impossible, but just too late. At least you can see Xiaomi & LG are trying to create their own chip for a start.

both OS has their own pros and cons but Android has the edge which Nokia did not go with and tried out Windows thinking that MS can come up with better ideas since they are the "leading OS" in computers / laptops

Nokia stayed too long with Symbian and they were late bringing out modern touch screen phones. They could've tried it out with Maemo/Meego OS but instead the board decided to go with Microsoft. In hindsight they should've totally gone with Android and bring out Android versions of phones like E7. I remember how some Nokia executives didn't want to go with Android because they would've been only one of many Android manufacturers. However we've seen that brands like LG and Sony have been successful and Samsung super successful with their Android phones, and with its huge brand recognition Nokia would've been among them sharing the market.

You can google his LinkedIn profile where it says he was at Siemens from 1992 to 2003, at Orange/France Telecom 2003-2005, at HTC 2005-2013, then 9 months at Nokia before moving to Microsoft where he stayed until starting at HMD in December 2016.

Obviously tons of Nokia people more or less automatically started working at Microsoft when MS acquired the mobile side of Nokia.

KMB877, 19 Jul 2017I'm just wondering, why this chain Foxconn - FIH Mobile - HMD Global - Nokia Technologies. Al... moreFIH is needed because Nokia sold all their factories etc... and Nokia didn't want to upset investors and risk making big investments in mobile business again after surviving near death of the whole company.. so nokia veterans simply created a new company . with main Nokia as a board member, so that manufacturing can be handled by foxconn , sales, marketing ,support by HMD and mobile can be designed by Nokia technologies....

i guess their plan was to simply test the market reaction with android with HMD but with a full fledged true Nokia effort . and not simply licencing brand name to any company like blackberry... this is why HMD has "exclusive rights" and is "specifically created" for this purpose just recently.. and Nokia is a board member with full rights to set performance standards and deny any phone they don't like... and the recent Carl zeiss exclusive deal..
plus with FIH they also got back their feature phone business from microsoft ..

If it starts becoming successful then simply buy HMD later ... it will then be easier to convince investors.. which is a master brilliant plan... to get back in the game without much financial risk.. and risking a repeat of what main company went through ..

ResolvePi, 19 Jul 2017Exactly. Compare latest Nokias to S8, even the OnePlus 3 and 3T, the iPhone SE (nice form fact... moreFor starters the new 3310 isn't that bad. It looks very good IRL.
It's price is okay and so it's featureset.

As for the new other models. Nokia's new flagship doesn't need to fight the galaxy S8 if its priced cheaper. Which I suspect. Also Nokia stands for quality and durability. Have you guys SEEN jerry-riggs-everything's bending test and disassembly of the Nokia 6?
That Nokia 6 mus be the most durable and best to repair of any smartphones today. Because not only is it build like a tank. It's constructed very logical and seems pretty easy to repair. Unlike all the others which are "buy once throw away garbage" including Samsung's topmodels. If that Nokia 8 is build similarly AND priced reasonable then it will appeal.
