Except there IS NO choice for a flat screen version of the S8 or the Note8.
Until we have gone tired of the curved screen and find it useless, people who are mostly getting the curved gimmick are perpetuating the sale of a very much more fragile version.
I wish the Note8 does come out with a flat screen version.
Savor , 24 Jul 2017Don't be surprised. As long as the phone looks good, that's all that matters to these shallow ... moreDesign beats function and performance. Really? S8 is among the best performing phones of this year and S7E for the last year. Samsung or any other brand didn't force you to buy their curved screen phones no, so why all this bashing? If you are using curved screen you have to make little adjustments, just like with any other phone with big bezel, bad design or a closed OS, or something else when you are getting a great device overall. I never felt discomfort while using S6E all these years. If you had then go and buy the one you prefer. It's not like those who prefer curved screens are idiots and those who like flat screens are geniuses. Just buy the one you are comfortable with rather than being critical of those who bought the one of their preferences.
flat screen, less bezel is perfect. Curved or 2.5D are real painful as no good screenprotector is available in real life. This has no practical good use in everyday life yet. 2.5D is even more worse then curved neither visible nor flat. One more difficulty is glass back in premium phones those are so easily breakable dangerous on accidental drop. On the other hand flat screen are always more durable and easy to replace with one damaged unit.

Also I'm really glad that advanced cultures like ancient Greece for example cared nothing for aesthetics! Oh wait...
AnonD-227943, 23 Jul 2017Flat screen, flat back, square edges. An inch (28mm) thick, full size slide out qwerty keyboard... moreSounds like you'll love the mi max

As long as the phone looks good, that's all that matters to these shallow idiots. It's a sad world we live in when design beats function and performance. There are millions of smartphone shells created in China that goes for pennies. People go after that when the real cost for a flagship comes from the SoC and display.
Like 80% of comments on any phone site or YouTube talks about how ugly or sexy a phone looks. Brands caters to these shallow idiots now believing a nice phone boost their insecurities when in reality, nobody cares what phone you are using. Fashionistas and insecure poseurs who buy a new phone every few months like clothes and shoes as long as it looks good.
Anonymous, 23 Jul 2017Flat screen, flat glass, it's as simple as that. With that combo, you can reach highest screen... moreExplain how flat can provide the best screen to body ratio when curved allows you to get a smaller footprint overall (hence a smaller body).
I'm all ears
I will pick 2.5D glass. It works as good as flat screen but it feels nicer when swiping from edge of the screen. Best example was comparision between galaxy alpha (flat screen) and note 4 (same design but with 2.5D glass) note felt much better while swiping from the side as there was no sharp edge to feel. Curved screens made me ditch samsung after 7 years, I might come back, when curved screens are gone.
Flat no doubt! Curved!? It's OK but mellow curved to inside! flat---> | mellow curved ---> less than this )
AnonD-684709, 23 Jul 2017I've been using a s7 edge for half a year, and I can only say that the curved screen is the mo... moreYou like flat women?
i'm for Flat screens
Curved screens have a big problem " The line on screen " like S6 Edge and S7 edge ..
and those curved screens does not give too many features and aren't good for watching videos.
Flat screen, flat back,square edges.
An inch (28mm) thick, full size slide out qwerty keyboard, massive 6000mah battery.
Can we please get over the designs for poncey gits it suits and build proper devices for people with normal lives and normal jobs that wear normal clothes..
Drown all "designers"
Gsmarena should ask about bezel and bezeless, next.
an "edge" doesn't add any practical feature to everyday usage while making screen-exchange in case of breaking the panel twice as expensive. I'm now running my third device with 2,5D glass and I can say this is even more horrible than a real edged glass. The 2,5D is only there to hide screen bezels and has no, literally NO use to it at all. Please big brands do get rid of the 2,5D screens asap, no screen protector will ever look good on these things (halo) nor does the slight curve look or feel good to most people.

Flan screen
Flat screen is the best. Curved screen is just beautiful but uncomfortable and more fragile.
Apolodor, 23 Jul 2017Flat screen ALWAYS!!!. you can put screen protector and don't touch those edges. 2.5D glass is... moreThere are screen protector for phones with curved screen, they are just more rare and expensive compared to flat.
Maybe I have small hands but I never touched the edges accidentally.
Anyway I prefer 2.5D curved glass, with the back curved, like the flat Galaxy S7, A series 2017, Huawei Honor 9, OnePlus 5.
