One can make the argument that if you're going to use a cabled-headset then it might be better to use USB-C for a clean digital signal, ie boosting the quality.
Or that if you're wanting to use a 3.5mm headset, then a discreet adaptor would be fine, as long as it also allows the phone to charge on the adaptor. So there are plausible solutions.
The upside is that, you save all this extra space on the device which can be used for things like:
thinner device
same thickness device but with sturdy materials
bigger battery
extra speaker, camera, module etc etc
I think if implemented properly, it could be a great move. However, Apple has failed on this front and I have less faith in Alphabet to get it right.

There is NO consumer-friendly reason whatsoever to get rid of it (and all the excuses in the world wont change that even if "the future is wireless anyway", those are just stupid rationalizations).
And front facing speakers are great for watching video, especially since there doesn't seem to be much of a compromise in bezel size...
If it has a 3.5mm jack, this looks very much like my idea of a perfect phone, otherwise there is no way in hell...

People here need a chill pill.
(1) If you want a headphone jack in your phone, there are like hundreds of phone models in the market today. Freedom of choice, people.
(2) Not everybody is obligated to care whether or not there are headphones in ONE model of phone. If you don't like it, refer to (1).
Easy, no?

SohailSays, 26 Jul 2017No 3.5 mm headphone jack? Ok bye pixels.It's not a deal breaker if they include an adaptor in the box which can accept a 3.5mm and charging. I have a feeling this is what they might do.
The button, port, camera, and fingerprint reader locations are great.
The stereo speakers are a boon!
I'm hoping for some decent IP68 ingress protection.
The only thing that sucks is the quasi-glass-metal back.

CommanderSyopao, 26 Jul 2017I really like pixels phones ,it just that their price is higher than my 2 months salary , poor meeh You could try to pick up a pre owned/ gently used model. You'd save lots of money, and be able to get one at a much more affordable price.

Trolling aside there is a LOT wrong with this phone. No headphone jack, ugly glass square, stereo speakers when NO ONE wants them (look at sony, htc, those companies promoted stereo speakers and they're both dead now) , and it will probably ship with some neutered Android version with no functionality (like wtf google why restrict the number of apps kept in RAM to 7? I'm a power user I always use lots of apps that take up substantial amount of RAM). It will also probably be bootloader locked cause Google is an Apple wannabe now, and have bad software support and bad customer service and spies on customers' data. and the straw that broke the camel's back for me - I want my wireless charrging!!!!! That's why I'm basically stuck with Samsung if I ever want to upgrade my beloved rooted Galaxy Note 3.
