COME ON SONY.
Bebe Rexha, 28 Jul 2017Not Sony's problem if you can't afford their products.
This is a mainstream serious flagship ... morenever knew apple ran a charity with their 649/749$ phones. This (if written price is correct) will cost 100-200 more than that. Also most big brand flagship phones (u11,g6,s8 etc) would be cheaper by than the new one by around 250 bucks. How will they convince consumers in ÚS to buy their phones without fingerprint scanners (and with same hardware) for that price?
Same for rest of the world, even with fps
Anonymous, 28 Jul 2017Looks like the competitors afraid Sony better and even better each day. nobody afraid of sony. sony's mobile division is just a tiny little company with itty bitty market share.

AnonD-521587, 28 Jul 2017I agrer with almost everything you said but we have to agree this is true for any smartphone c... moreExactly, and the best way for Sony to differentiate is not to follow others and price their own way and that means undercutting the competition. I can understand the Snapdragon 835 being more expensive, but its definitely not more than $10-20 more than the 820. NAND flash and memory prices are also declining.
I used to be a diehard Sony fan but Sony's phones are severely underwhelming, its honestly sad to see these Sony fanboys who are clueless choosing to praise overpriced trash. I'm a Z3 owner and a past XZ owner and as an electronics engineer, I know very well what the problem with Sony is now.

I don't think any company is worth 700 dollars given that most every company pretty much uses the same components from the same companie.
Meaning no phone should really cost that much unless you're using some insane material or tech nobody has
Wait and see what phone it will be instead of speaking nonsense.
Bebe Rexha, 28 Jul 2017Not Sony's problem if you can't afford their products.
This is a mainstream serious flagship ... moreSony can offer quality at lower prices, pricing $300 more than competitors like OnePlus is a pure gimmick. Samsung S8 AMOLED also looks better than Sony screens so it makes sense to charge more, however S8 is also cheaper at around $600 now. Sure, if they priced it $50-100 more than a OnePlus, it would make sense. Think about how a PS4 Pro with 10x more hardware only costs $400, that thing has way more metal, plastic, power electronics, and semiconductors in it than an Xperia phone.
I can afford their products, I bought the Xperia Z3 when it first came out for $700. I also bought the XZ for $700 too. I sold my XZ for a $50 loss and kept using my Z3 because I did not see it worth for $700. Sony does not put any special technology in its phones other than its image sensors and slightly brighter screens which should not make the phones cost more than $550-600. I'm an engineering student studying semiconductor materials in VLSI and chip packaging/mounting technologies and I've designed my own smartphones using development kits with Snapdragon 820, 3200mAh battey and 1440p AMOLED screen for just $400. I take apart Sony phones and replace screens and lots of components and reverse engineer them. Heck, that shit is NOT WORTH $700. $800 is just digging a grave. All Xperia (including Z3 and XZ which I took apart) phones use plastic brackets inside with a very simple internal layout. A single flex cable running under the battery connects the power button, vibration motor, bottom speaker, and wifi/bluetooth/gps/cellular antenna. Above that is the battery and above that is the motherboard. The battery costs maximum $10. The PCB on the motherboard is also max $10 and the CPU + 16/64gb NAND + 3GB RAM are only $60. The rubber waterproofing seal with waterproofing glue is max $5. The aluminum and nylon used to make the shell housing are max $20 and screen is max $50 including glass and touch layer. The total bill of materials of all components of the Z3/XZ are both only around $220-250. Adding shipping, R&D, and box contents (manual, headphones), the phone totals out to maximum $300 of expenditures per phone. Even if Sony sold them at $500, they would make a big profit but more people would buy their phones. I find it absolutely ridiculous how they price generic hardware for quadruple of its production value.
AnonD-663385, 28 Jul 2017What note 8? You meant s8+ plus the pen and smaller battery that will only slap things already... morei mean i dont want a new design from sony though its kind of long overdue now especially with everyone moving towards bezeless trend sony needs a new design and something new to wow everyone like they kind of did with the XZP but missed the opportunity of design change.
as a sony fan their product naming is definitely beyond st*pid. They need to fix that.
also here is me hoping the new xz1 will have an interesting design change. But the XZP kind of brought all the guns that sony had. and many say the 4k hdr screen looks more stunning than the galaxy s8 which has crappy pentile arrangment

Ask anyone on the streets does it make sense for the second generation to be named XZ1 and XA1? Are you from the Sony marketing department? If so, please take some of the honest opinions here into consideration.
