In reply to the question posed in the last line, I would say, not really. The Essential Phone looked very gimmicky right from the start and has quite a few drawbacks. And considering the important people leaving this young unproven company, things are already looking downhill.

Given Essential's specs, it might NOT be cut out or ahead of other competitions.
Their promised feature to be modular of some sort might not influence consumers as well.

Yes and ... moreIn a world of Galaxy S8s (lovely looking, top spec, inc wet wireless charging), Moto Z (also modular and lovely looking), iPhone 8 due later, LG G6+, HTC 11 etc, Essential have their work cut out on the value proposition side. And then there are all the Chinese phones.

Yes and No...
on paper, it looks good and the promises given were okay. However, consumers are already fed up of hyped promises not living up to the expectation so we'll take that with a pinch of salt.
Unless Essential Phone exceeds the expectations, we're not sure if this will ever fly given the bad rep it has from execs leaving the company.
