Flat screen because they are cheap in repairs provide better grip and less prone to breaking when phone falls on its sides
travis100, 30 Jul 2017Flat screens are just better all round.
Their also cheaper.
And why do we have to keep havin... more1: Thin isn't exactly synonymous of fragile. My A5 waaay thinner than most flagships (6.8mm!) and has survived some serious drops of concrete and asphalt. Never had to replace the GG4.
2: They do that because innovation is slowing down, and why bother find a new useful thing when you can just make a phone that has the looks? Because when you go shop a phone, the looks matters. You'll likely (if you're not a tech enthusiast) choose your next phone when you'll look at it (or it's price). That way you've just saved sooooooo much money on R&D (because it's harder to find the new feature everyone will want than to just make something that looks good).
Or you can just find an old feature long forgotten and put it in your products. Apple did that and it worked very well.
Curved glass also means flat screen, just a bit more cool looking. So it's basically 61% against 30%.
People that don't care probably never held a curved screen phone in their hands. Because you either love it, or hate it.
Flat+curved rear metal= durability king (NOT counting Galaxy S Active/Xcover and Moto Force series). But, you know, some prefer bragging over those little details and pay for the consequences (my sister's iPhone glass broke, again, for the 3rd time, once in front of me, in a pathetically small 1-2ft fall, on wood, not even concrete)
Flat screens are just better all round.
Their also cheaper.
And why do we have to keep having thinner and thinner phones ?
It's a stupid idea with "design" given more importance than practicality.
Did anyone actually have a major problem ten years ago handling 25+ mm thick phones ?
No,if some sad git wants a skinny, thin, weak, compromised device to not bulge in their Armani suit, build a few models, but the rest of us want better, stronger devices, with more capabilities and sensible sized batteries.
Stuff poxy "designers" and stupid fashion "leaders" their usless parasites who should be driven out of industries and general life..
Flat screen Overwhelmingly win don't you see? Author must be drunk saying oppositethe
I guess I am one of the few who belong to the "I don't care" camp! ¯\_("P)_/¯
Curved screen is on flat screen camp, so actually the poll result it's overwhelming 61% toward flat screen. versus 30% edge screen.
my personal preference is 2.5D curved rather than 3D curved like u11, which is edge screen wannabe.
Flat is from the past.
Curve is from the future of nothing.
2.5D is still the best.
Jatin999, 30 Jul 2017Curved screen is stupid makes phone weakYeah true. Gripping the phone that has curve edges is more difficult than they have expected though it is the future. There is no point to deny!!!!
I meant Mi Mix. Not Mii Mix with the previous post. I must have been confused with Nintendo Mii. Haha. But yeah I would love an AMOLED Mi Mix with a good camera. I suppose that will take another year to happen.
owing s6 edge and s7 edge back to back, i have realised, apart from the looks, in every way curved display is a disadvantage to us.. This is the frustration, because of having going through all the mis touch occur when you play COC or clash royale while laying down.. practically using your phone while lying down is impossible..
My current phones are the ageing Sharp Aquos 305SH and 402SH, both are waiting for their replacement when Sharp joins back the bezelless game it started...
I've seen many curved screen (referring to those edge screen) but how useful is it..? Plain stupid, just a wow-factor, good thing Apple didn't jump on the curved edge bandwagon...
However, a full bezelless front flat screen would be as stupid also as where do you rest you finger(s) when not typing on the screen... And for those who play games on their phones, good luck with accidental click(s)...
Reading and watching video on a curved screen is not a pleasant experience. Remember when TVs went from curved to flat? So much better. When will manufacturers give us a flat screen with no bezels? Give us a Mii Mix industrial design with AMOLED and a decent camera and that phone will rule them all.
