So every Nokia phone has to have a firmware update, beacause of the "ovi store" app in the firmware...

Ovi was an incredibly stupid name anyway. Just what the hell did it stand for. Good riddance to a lame name for a store and let's get on with business... Making phones that are perceivably better than Android and iOS. Now that Skype, Nokia and Microsoft are all under the same banner, hopefully they won't waste their opportunity to become the worlds best smart phone manufacturer. Time will tell

Their still the # 1 cellphone manufacturer in terms of global sales.

Nokia, MEEGO PHONE, Now!!! Screw a name change. You should be able to do that in MAX TIME 1 week, it's only a freaking BMP JPEG Or whatever format of a picture and replacing Ovi name everywhere. That should not take until 2012. I want Intel to bring some Meego devices over to the US. We'd see how fast they come out and how much support they give it then because Intel supports Meego 100%.

I disagree. I think identifying with a single brand makes it infinitely easier on the consumer. Take apple for instance and their iconic "i"
Thats the unifying factor in their brand, and it works wonders. This is a good step for a company that really does need to pick itself up from the ashes. So Go Nokia, still leading world phone sales, they have time to catch up.

So what if Nokia rebrands all services, Sell the smart phone division to Microsoft and uses the S40 division as a cash cow to develop the services further.
Then release the services (Mapping, Music and other location services) for all platforms...Hey Blackberry is a little short on mapping and location services....they are also battling with the OS....could they merge with Nokia to make a pure play services company and dump the hardware to cheaper manufacturers.

I work for one of the largest UK mobile phone retailers (Phones4u) in the web sales department. Although Nokia don't have many, if any, top end phones, they still sell more middle and low end handsets than any other manufacturer, especially without a contract on pay as you go or sim-free.
Developing countries in Asia and Africa are primarily Nokia biased.
I think will be back. No one stays at the top forever.

I do not think name matter. Ovi was fine. Nokia Store? It will take time to get used to. Nokia lacks on executions. Nokia was first with it Download app store idea, but it was Apple who took it to the masses. Nokia was first with smartphones followed by HTC phones with limited penetration, but it was Apple who took it to the masses. It is execution and consistency. Once people see what phones are capable of they will get Nokias. Meanwhile S^3 cannot do normal copy paste of any text I want in any application or web page. Many applications I would prefer to have no equivalent for S^3. All these changes and transitions create uncertainty for S^3 and do not encourage developers to do anything. My girl has Nokia. It is fine for her and what she want to do. I like it, but I look at smart phones as a portable pocket computer and expect them doing computing and from computing point of view Andriod offers more. Apple is out of picture as it is way too paranoid and restrictive.

All you guys. I must tell you that the declining of NOKIA market share was due to mistake to take Android lightly. But now Nokia is dead serious about smartphones. See how they made Symbian^3. They coded it with such a style and difference that it doesn't appealed like symbian. Just wait and watch. Now both Nokia And Microsoft will change the game. Nokia is the best. THEIR LUCK IS DOWN NOW A DAYS . But it can't be forever
