I had the S4 Zoom and it actually had a great image quality. The lens wasn't the best as it had distortion around the edges.

It is the only way... moreAlso, saying dual cam is the next progression is like saying 3D displays are the future. They sound cool on paper, but then you realize it was just a set back. With dual cams, it just allows manufacturers to save on engineering that would be necessary to fit in a larger sensor in a slim body.
While I'm all for optical zoom, I wouldn't want one in the name of sacrificing camera quality.

That and the fact it's a dual hard setup which by definition makes it unlikely to increase sensor size due to space constraints gives us a very safe guess the sensor is small.

If your phone has OIS it still can use EIS, but if your phone doesn't have OIS, your ONLY choice is EIS. OIS is also better at low light photos.

And no. It wasn't even until like 2016 maybe that sonys eis finally showed promise and that it could be better than ois in some cases. Despite all the claims f it for years priot. And no it is still not better in many cases. Mostly just video. And comparing it to the s8 shows less gap actually. Bad example.
Gimmicks? You mean like the first update to almost every mp in mobile cameras? First 4k? First HD recording and playback? First pdaf and dual photo diode focusing?
Oh you mean like their market leading amoleds and ui that usually has half the features of future android updates before everyone else gets them?
Or being among world leaders in chip production and fabrication.

Sony uses a sensor shift stabilization that works even better than OIS, but the thing is that it only works for Macro Photos and not all the time.
Video stabilization of the XZ Premium in comparison to the S8 will tell you the difference.
And Samsung is good at bringing gimmicks to the table.
They are good with processors, while the rest are just plain gimmicks in general. Yep, including the Samsung Pay - do you buy your smartphone using that method? Lol.
And unlike what my Nickname suggests, why would I hate a Samsung Galaxy Note phone? Can you specify it?
I don't hate Samsung at all, but maybe I am, so can you help me tell that I am hating? 'Cause I'm pretty sure I do love every manufacturer with no exceptions.

Anonymous, 01 Aug 2017FYI : 960fps at Xperia XZs/XZ Premium is only have 5 secs limit time.At least it works just as intended, even if only for a short period of time.
Digital Zoom works just as good as a smartphone telephoto zoom if you have great sensor.
Check out PA's zoom comparison of the XZ and iPhone 7 Plus, and often they are evenly matched, some are better on the iPhone 7 Plus while some are better on the XZ.
