A lay person given the option to buy a cheaper xiaomi with better spec than a more expensive Sony with lower spec will more likely to buy a xiaomi. Only people who are fans of Sony willing to pay more for the Sony.

Same as everyone else on every other ... moreyou have no idea what you're talking about. the 2k oled from samsung is not better it uses pentile arrangment which is bad for sharpness. Which means samsung has to make a 2k oled screen to match the sharpness of an RGB 1080 lcd panel
the 4k hdr from sony is way sharper than samsung.

Once they'll look at the competition without FanBoys (TM) glasses... Also, having a bigger margin over a product, doesn't that means that their fans are getting ripped off by buying an overpriced device? I am sorry, but no matter how much you love Sony, they'll have to do a lot better than taking advantage of their fans to be sustainable in the future. Nokia did tried that before vanishing into Microsoft's hands... And the 2017 Nokia isn't the same thing

Sony tried competing at all fronts, and they were bleeding money. The reconcentrate their efforts with focus on higher margin phones targeted at their own fans, and now their profits are up. Their strategy is working. And no, fans don't just drop their favorite brands right off the bat. They are called fans for a reason. Sony is smarter now. They cannot just compete with the Chinese to get marketshare.

Sony knows their target market now, their fans, so they focus their higher margin phones to those people who are already willing to spend the money for the Sony brand. Ie. they are narrowing their target market, and hence they can get more margin.
The major cost cutting was old news few years ago, where they closed many of their US retail stores.

And while many people like and dislike the curves they are paving way for the future display tech and posibilities.
And yes a 3K not 2k... HDR Amoled is overal better than a 4K HDR lcd. And so is the 2.5k HDR amoled....not 2k again which is closer to 1080p.
