Here you are again as though it never happened. Regardless I have been in that position on the website. Do know, Bluetooth headphones HI RES options are becoming better each year. It probably won't be too long before reference type c headphones models will be distributed from high end companies. Headphone manufacturers are aware of the state of mobile products.
As to whether or not 3.5 mm headphone jacks will go the way of the dodo bird is anyone's guess.

TechLover1, 03 Aug 2017Oh, at least now, after a million years (to make the delay really clear).True, TechLover! The Zenfone AR was announced more than half a year ago and now it's just reached it's pre-order phase. In a cut-throat industry, that is a sure-fire way to lose steam and customer sales.

xXENDER FREAKXx, 03 Aug 2017Who buys ASUS smartphones in the whole wide world? They are well known for desktops, laptops, ... moreActually, it is a relatively chosen brand here in Canada. It is popular as a full-paid, unbranded device bought at either Staples or Costco. No carrier carries their devices here. It's mostly for people not needing a line, a backup phone or a kid's first phone (along the J3). But it's surely not the phone you're thinking about when you go to the store.

Whereas when u go to other countries, the main smartphones u see is : IPHONE, SAMSUNG, SONY, HTC, LG, HUAWEI, XIAOMI, OnePlus. Feel bad for them. If they get good stuff, they would get stolen by burglars. If they get lousy stuff, they would get mocked by others. Buying those 2 brands in Malaysia will not be stolen or mocked by others, since it is the majority so they will not do anything about it. But if u have a good smartphone in Malaysia or u went there with a good smartphone, be careful of your surroundings

OnePlus, Sony and LG smartphones are very rare in Malaysia.

ProJames, 03 Aug 2017... I preduct very low adoption rates. Maybe some will get it after the iPhone 8 goes on sale,... moreWho buys ASUS smartphones in the whole wide world? They are well known for desktops, laptops, gaming. But not for this. The only country I know people would buy is Malaysia, where a lot of people buying ASUS there just because their battery is big and doesn't even care for the other specifications. FACEPALM TO THEM

... I preduct very low adoption rates. Maybe some will get it after the iPhone 8 goes on sale, as it will push the AR gimmick into a fancy feature. But this device is a huge disappointment. Too late, outdated, ugly...

I lost interest in this phone months ago. Why does Asus announce things and release months later?

The price would be done if they would've kept the original specs. Heavily neutered phone.

Are pre-orders still relevant now for this more-than-a-year phone?

Everything would be fine except that it's 2017 now and they're offering Snapdragon 821-powered device at flagship price.
