Luxor, 10 Aug 2017What? Why you replying to me? What does copying hardware have to do with getting bricked by update? Must've replied to the wrong comment, then.
Whoops!
Cheap Xiaomi casual, 10 Aug 2017I thought it was different strokes for different folks? Unless this was politics or something ... moreIt's a market, profit (not politics) is the main motivation. If something sells very well and is much more profitable than the other, then that something trumps all else in the market.
Giving support is very expensive and makes a huge difference in profits, so guess what... Androids without support trump the market.
It's not politics, it's knowing how a market works and understanding the consequences (to others) of each ones choice.
I pray to God please hit a malware that hit billions of devices and it will be so nasty it will bring a massive damage to companies and individuals. Then Google will care about updates.

It is a phone - a tool for people to get things done. Not some kind of responsibility to humankind.
AnonD-676032, 09 Aug 2017Blame manufacturers and carriers for not upgrading phones more than a year old. Yeah, also blame dumb customers buying pre-outdated devices.
AnonD-676032, 09 Aug 2017Blame manufacturers and carriers for not upgrading phones more than a year old. Or blame consumers for not doing their job of voting with their money. There are options (even within the Android world) with proper support, nevertheless consumers keep choosing the ones who do not have such support (some are even vocally defending the idea that people should not upgrade their phones).
The market is ruled by what consumers choose to buy (ie. what's profitable), the sooner we all realize this the better.
My Moto X Pure is still waiting for 7 and Android 8 is coming out next month. Thank you Google, you made my 1 year and 11 months phone 2 years out of date.
AnonD-558092, 09 Aug 2017Those figuers are depressing. In one year, Nougat only managed to gain 10% of the market.Blame manufacturers and carriers for not upgrading phones more than a year old.
piku, 09 Aug 2017You are forgetting custom ROMs even if OEM abandon a phone we can easily flash Lineage or any ... moreLet us not also forget that, when Apple upgrades their OS in older devices, although the code base may be the same as the latest version the *features* which are enabled aren't the same as the very latest ones (unlike what happens in Android).
So you may have the latest iOS version in your 4/5 years old phone, but the (software-only) features you have available aren't the same as the latest iPhone. It's good (when compared to no updates at all), but not as great as unwary people would think (such as those used to upgrading Androids).
laggdroids, 09 Aug 2017why would i void my warranty, when within warranty i can upgrade my OS for a minimum of 4/5 years :DYou are forgetting about software freedom and it's importance to keep our information society truly free. Those that are conscious about the matter (as well as some major corporations that care about opsec) are actually willing to premium to get hardware in which you can get the source code for all software/middleware that runs in it, audit it, change it at will, and then make their own ROM which tailors the OS to their specific needs/wants.
Official manufacturer support is great and can greatly improve things in all sides, but it's not the be-all end-all.
the best is kitkat

Kitkat is love Android is not smooth after kitkat to be honest material UI sucks its not silky smooth as it use to be with kitkat.
laggdroids, 09 Aug 2017n then you shell out cash on expensive phones that even hardly gets it worthy updates not more... moreYou are forgetting custom ROMs even if OEM abandon a phone we can easily flash Lineage or any other ROM we like, but you can't do the same with iphone once apple stops support you have to buy a new iphone.
