In this comment thread: people berating each other over a phone.

Guys, it's just a phone, not the Antichrist.

People r just over reacting... Look at other companies! Sony, Samsung, LG they all give two major software updates... After that they cut off... Same for OnePlus it is nougat and Android O.

Anonymous, 12 Aug 2017So how is Samsung worst? the Galaxy S7 is 8 months older than the 3T, yet we know for a fact t... moreKeep dreaming. Galaxy S5 stopped at MM.
S6 will stop at Nougat. And S7 will stop at O. So Samsung is the same at the end, but you must pay more for it.

Actually, Oneplus 5 is a flop show from Oneplus and not doing very good in the market. There are not much people, who are upgrading their phones (most of them already have either Oneplus 3/3T).

Now, they want to push the Oneplus 3/3T to update their handsets to Oneplus 5, so they are using these scary techniques.

They are going to loose their fanbase after this decision. They will regret, I bet.

Anonymous, 12 Aug 2017I don't get the problem. It launched with marshmallow didn't it? So it's expected for Android ... moreStill doesn't mean that that should be an acceptable norm. We're not talking about some 3rd rate down the rung entry level phones with some crap low end Cortex A7 32 bit Mediatek SoCs with 1.5GB RAM.

This is precisely why we should refrain from talking too much about Antutu scores, single vs. multi cores and dumbest of all, 2 vs. 8GB RAM (ffs it's as if people are really running virtual machines on their phones and even if they do they're not even 0.5% of the market).

All the hardware firepower and yet every single $500 phones today are even worthless than any $400 laptops that can easily outlast a couple of years. But we can change by voting with our money against planned obsolescence.

Any idea when android P is due? If it's more than a year than that's entirely normal for it not to get it.
Not defending anything, but timescale matters and they should be getting security patches still.

oh boy. so many kids arguing about updates. O is ok for oneplus3 and 3T(kinda the same phone). after all the usual android flagship support is 18 months. while the oneplus 2 update was a flop the android O for op3 and 3t being the last is fairly standard. So it is for HTC10,Galaxy S7,etc

Anonymous, 12 Aug 2017You do realize that the 3T was released less than one year? Or don't? Why are you defending themBecause the 3T was a continuation of the 3 which was released before. As for why they won't update the 3T further than O, I have no better explanation than this. You should ask OnePlus about it.

But basically they want people to switch to the 5 anyway.

NB: while I do have the 3, I don't see how I am defending anyone. I had numerous devices from other brands before the OnePlus 3 and the update cycle was about the same (two major upgrades and that's it).

[deleted post]Agree with you man. The oneplus cheap flagship fanboys don't have anything to say about how great Samsung is. Samsung don't need 10gb ram to sell its flagship phones.

So it's expected for Android ... moreIn other news, they announced the 3T little over *half* a year ago and are now announcing the discontinuation of support. 18mo support like flagships my arse -- that's the problem.
