Not sure why people are upset. Android OEMs make money by selling new phones, not updating old ones.
So just buy the one plus 6 or 7.

OnePlus 3T user here: I would be fine just with security patching for the next 2 years, even if the current (Nougat) version is all I get on this phone.
What is the big deal with getting the latest Android version, anyway? There isn't so much of a difference even between Lollipop and Nougat.

Which means that my LG phones like my G5 likely stops with Android O as well. That isn't necessarily a bad thing. I just updated to Nougat but don't like to restore it afterwards and certain apps break. My Notes app I used since 2011 kept crashing on Nougat but was still flawless on Marshmallow. I hate battery drain, RAM leakage, and other bugs when it comes to updates. Some apps work better on older software.
Since OP3 started with MM, that is the standard two major software updates typically found on most Android smartphones including Nexus and Pixel.
