I thought that you didn't understand lens optics and I was trying to explain to you why the main and secondary lenses/sensors couldn't be exactly the same when using different focal lengths in the same amount of space. You've just been an angry troll this entire time. This is the last time Im going to reply to you because this is useless and annoying, and all I get from you is anger and labels.

The only reason I was calling the secondary "telephoto" camera on the Note8 impressive was because I was impressed by the undeniable fact that the secondary camera had both a brighter aperture and OIS, two things Samsung's competitors, at this date, have yet to match. All I have done is state facts, while it seems that all you have done is trolled and ignored me untill it proves convenient for you while using multiple slang words at your leisure. I might be wrong, but It sure seems like that is what is going on here. I was trying to explain to you what I thought you didn't know about lens optics and design based on your comments. I repeated myself because It seems like you were ignoring what I was trying to explain to you. I don't know why you have been so aggressive and argumentative from the start, but here we are.

All i know is that they did better than any other phones secondary 50mm+ camera has done in terms of aperture and i also know about the physics of a lens. Please explain to me how you know there is more room without implementing folded optics

They could have at the very least put a brighter lens on it. Period. Fact. It's only a "second camera".
A second camera that is supposed to capture the foreground and main subject of the image and the zoomed details.
So being inky the second aka not important one it captures the main or.... important... part of the photo.
But takes in far less light.
But because others don't offer quite as good or equal it's ok to call it intonation and charge $1000.
And now just like those select crazy Sony fans or majority of Apple ones...here you are trying to put reason and excuses behind this.

What I'm saying is simple: Lenses with longer focal lengths take up more space, so compromises on the sensor and lens need to be made to accommodate for the size restraints. This is not cheaping out, it is a manufacturer conforming to physics.
I used a larger sensors and their corresponding lenses as an example to show how longer lenses need more space. It is true that larger sensors require different lens designs, but the sensors on phones are still just tiny versions of larger sensor cameras. Thus, lens design is more compact but still follows the same ideas.
More magnification generally requires more space.
Fitting a lens with a higher magnification in the same space as a lens with lower magnification requires compromise in quality to fit.
I don't know how I can make it more simple.

In order to fit a longer lens onto a phone, the engineers must compromise on something due to the fact that the longer the focal length of the lens the more physically large it is. To fit the longer lens on phone manufacturers make the sensor for the lens smaller. Because the sensor is smaller, it allows for a more compact lens. A larger aperture also takes up more room, which is why the aperture of the secondary lens is f 2.4.
If you don't believe me, go look up a 20mm F 2 prime lens for a full frame or aps-c camera and then compare it to a 400mm full frame or aps-c f 2.8 prime lens.
This is is a bit of an exaggerated comparison, but you get the idea. If you notice, despite the larger size of the longer zooms, the aperture is still more often than not lower than on normal or wide angle primes. This is because, as I said, longer lenses generally take up more room than wider angle lenses.

A longer focal length lens takes up more room, so they compromise on the sensor and the aperture in order to fit it into the same amount of area. Im explaining to you how lens physics works, not talking to myself or trying to over ride people whom i dont agree with. Please take a moment before going to anger and think about my comment.

Anonymous, 24 Aug 2017F2.4 and 1um with only 12mp is no good in 2017 on $1000 Note8... its a secondary camera, not the main one. The main wide angle camera has a 12 megapixel 1/2.55" sensor with 1.4 micron pixels. The 26mm equivalent lens has an f stop of 1.7 and OIS.
The 12mp sensor with the 1.0 micron pixels and the 2.4 lens with OIS is a secondary camera that is "zoomed in' at a 52mm equivalent. This gives samsung the ability to enhance the zoom on their phones.
I say this is q good secondary camera because irs harder for manufacturers to cram a good sensor and lens
Wow... That's... a lot of blurred official photos... Blurred and sharpened, that is. Colors and dynamic range are very good, though.
