I got a LENGTHY hands on with a gorgeous black Note8 in Carphone Warehouse (UK) today. I currently own a Note5, which until today, I thought pretty much perfect, except for battery life. Prior to that, owned Note 1, 2 and 4. Comments on Note8: Blindingly fast and smooth operating (made my 5 seem slow!). Screen is much brighter. Screen whites are pure, unlike my 5 that in comparison looked blue, although I never noticed before! Phone is EASY to hold in the had being, like the S8+ tall and narrow. Power, volume and Bixby controls are well positioned. (Bixby was disabled on the demo phone.) Obviously, the Note8 looks fantastic, very very similar to S8+. The S-Pen looks great in pure black, only difference between it and the one in my Note5 is the button is slightly further up the pen. (Or down, I cannot remember.) Now the big con, and it's already been mentioned by others: Although the curve on the edges of the screen is less pronounced than the S8 series, it does waste space. Why curve a display for viewing videos or using with the S-Pen? I found it annoying. It only had two benefits, but neither are important: The phone looks nice (more a technology demo of curving displays, as done with the Note 4 Edge) and it makes holding the phone more comfy.
I just hope the Note9 does NOT have a curved display. If Apple launch an iPhone Pro with Apple Pencil compatibility, I am willing to bet the screen will be flat.
Anonymous, 27 Aug 2017I was hopping it has big battery. Like 5000mAH.Damn i was hoping for 20 000 mah especially after note 7 blew up
Almost perfect for me, just no stereo speakers and high price, but if not that - perfect. And I dont see any competition in 6"+ phones except s8+.
Way better than all flagships this year imo
Note 8 & her display size (6.3") is micro TV xD
18:2. Screen is the way to go... Taller screen is easier to use than a wider screen, but like a conventional screen there is a sweet spot, I have to say that the note 8 missed the sweet spot,. I would love to have a 18:2 screen on a 5 inch phone.... Just to see how mini the phone would be...
Price and somewhat conservative specs make it a disappointment to me. Either the size needs to be smaller or the battery larger. I get why they were conservative after the note 7, but I can't say I like the decision.
18.5:9 screen is also way too tall for comfortable use, but this is a criticism I have of all 2017 samsung flagships.
mixa, 27 Aug 2017Galaxy S8+ with smaller battery and a pen that nobody is using. The dual camera is the worst i... moreI have many issues with this. But at least mine are factual and logical.
Nobody uses the pen???
And it's actually one of the best dual camera set ups. And that's sad because it's lacking.
MrElectrifyer, 28 Aug 2017It's a great device, and with the goodies it comes with it easily makes up for the $255 differ... moreI agree with everyone it's too expensive. But like you said. It comes with a lot of things and has a lot of discounts that make up for it. But only for those reasons. Without the extras or discounts as much as I wanted a new Note I could not justify it.
But free $100 headphones. $180-$330 goodies. And $150-$530 discounts with credits and trade ins.
Currently it's not so bad. When it's $800-$900 on it's own without the promotions and discounts....It's a great device with many positives....
But also over priced, lacking, and a disgrace to Note fans.
It's a great device, and with the goodies it comes with it easily makes up for the $255 difference over an S8+. However, I think it could have been better with stereo speakers like on the HTC 10 and at least 3400 mAh battery.
Anonymous, 27 Aug 2017This is scary on point :'(I have to agree with you totally and I voted that Samsung dropped the ball with this phone, This is just an S8+ with an SPen and dual Camera.
The other thing the annoys me and has made me boycott Samsung is the fact that for quite sometime Samsung is discriminating against it's loyal consumers outside Korea and China! Here in the UK we have had no Note series phone since the 4, When the Note 7 came out they made a 6GB RAM version for Korea/ China, The Note 5 was never officially released here by Samsung and now the Note 8 Emperor Edition will be for Korea and China.
In all honesty the dual Camera is for selfie generation and pouting posers. It does really nothing for the power user and Sammys Note main user.
The Note series was High spec processor and Ram and removable battery and storage it made its niche in the market.
Now it seems it's beguining to alienate itself from its main consumer???
The price is extortionate considering that it brings a dual Camera feature and Pen over the S8 plus, Samsung is losing its way and is to busy trying to steal and target Apples client Base!
Galaxy S8+ with smaller battery and a pen that nobody is using. The dual camera is the worst implementation of all, which in itself is a gimmick.
Go waste your money on this thing, Samsung needs em.
River rafter, 27 Aug 2017I am disappointed by the sheer number of fools believing in Samsung and letting them get away ... moreThis is scary on point :'(
Anonymous, 27 Aug 2017If $450 ... I'll buy it. 😁Well if thou can trade in then you can get up to $530 off at bestbuy.
Anonymous, 27 Aug 2017If $450 ... I'll buy it. 😁Are you Note 7 owner (in earlier past)!? If yes, you can to having GN8 for half price...
Flossy420, 27 Aug 2017How are they supposed to upgrade the CPU when they're already using the best chipset?
Do you ... moreFor the CPU, there's nothing stopping them from engineering an Exynos 8896 or 8995 or whatever. The older gens had better SoCs (or, for the N2, an overclocked version), like the SD 805 in the N4 instead of the SD801 of the S5.
it seems like new midrange phones or previous flagships are a good choice this time.
If $450 ... I'll buy it. 😁
Nope. It is still behind note 4 actually. Sure it is faster and has way more processing power etc, but as for me note series had died with note 5. Thats why after about a decade with samsung and nearly 5 years with note series I had to ditch samsung phones. Note 4 was the best of its kind, note 5 lost sd slot, removable battery and got glass back, note 7 got sd slot back but edge screen made it even worse, and now 18,5 : 9 screen ratio killed the line in my eyes. My girlfriend has s8 which has 5,8 screen, comparing it to my 5,9 mate 9 is just funny. Nearly same "size" but compare screen size while playing a video from youtube. Makes a difference.
Samsung Galaxy Note 8..nice but pricey
