I am disappointed by the sheer number of fools believing in Samsung and letting them get away with all the flaws they put in this phone.
Samsung is becoming like apple, just profit oriented. Their phones are appealing to the stupid idiots in the world who are easily convinced by hyped advertising like on the unboxing event and are fully convinced with a premium looking phone. That's all the note series is now. PREMIUM LOOKING. and a wallet burner.
Nobody cares to ask themselves whether samsung deserves to get ~$1000 from each of you for a stupid camera implementation gimmick from the iphone 7 plus hype, live message (seriously? an animation on how you wrote an sms? Are you gonna teach people how to write english with that software feature?) and a smaller battery?
Nothing is new on the note 8 since the note 7. Nothing except the camera and the bigger display. Well displays have been getting bigger over the years and this is quite an unpractical size. Camera IMO is a stupid implementation. They could've used 3x zoom or the secondary for better low light. This setup doesn't even work in low light for zoom (as the phone uses the primary for the photo and crops it to zoom). Essentially, samsung put ois on both sensors but not the same aperture size. So only one sensor is good for low light. Want to zoom in the dark? Tough luck. You'll get your picture taken from the standard sensor and cropped instead.
The battery size is no excuse either. Samsung argues that they want to play safe after last year. Maybe they should've used the money its customers give them to research on making compact larger capacity and safer batteries instead of making a hyped phone with average specs and making it cost about $1000. All the profit you make by reducing production cost samsung! That's so apple of you!
The s8+ barely manages a day with heavy use. Now the note 8 has a bigger screen with a digitizer, plus a significantly smaller battery? Last year's incident is no excuse to put a smaller battery. And the spen isn't gonna take up too much space. If samsung can take so much money from us, I'm sure they have the resources to research on making bigger capacity batteries that don't explode or take up too much space inside the phone.
No serious productivity oriented note user asked for a curved display. That cuts on space for a battery.
Note fans need power. Not much of looks. That's exactly what samsung knows and they are appealing to the larger number of fools who are buying these phones for their looks and not for the spen what it was originally meant for.
This iteration is just a software update. Even dual window shortcuts will come to the s8 soon.
Samsung is shaming themselves infront of its few note fans. This phone is not for note fans. It's Samsung's way of making profit. I don't expect another good note to come out. Note 4 was the last of it's kind. Fact is fact. Nothing will change this. Samsung has truly lost its way.
It's not bad, waiting for a price drop.
Only disappointment is the reduced battery capacity (S8+ 3500mAh, Note8 3300mAh).
Voted perfect, but there s room for improvement IMO:
1. 8GB of RAM, because I am that one user who can and does use excessive amounts of memory.. Thanks Hangouts, WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, Messenger, Facebook (Messenger and facebook, especially the non-lite variants...) all implementing chat in their own stupid special, incompatible way instead of just coming together and building something nice and universal. *shakes head*
2. Fully flat screen would be nice, especially for the stylus usage.
3. Make it 10-12mm thick and give me a bigger battery (even if it makes it even heavier)
4. Get rid of the single-SIM SKU. It costs basically nothing from what I can tell. On a related note, make the second SIM slot LTE-capable too already! We have LTE-only networks out there now.
5. Get a dedicated microSD slot. Funnily enough, the times when I want to use the second SIM slot is also usually the exact same time I want to use the microSD slot: when travelling - second SIM slot for local/roaming/temporary SIM, and microSD to have a local copy of music and/or video so one doesn't need to download or stream crap constantly.
For that price it should also have cleaning and cooking feature.
Unfortunately, it's too narrow and too tall. And I could swallow that for any other phone, but not for a Note. This 18.5:9 ratio negates the very meaning of the Note, keeping notes. Add to that the edge display and you get an incredibly narrow note-keeping real estate. Notes should be kept as close to 3:4 as possible. I am aware that we cannot go very far from the standard 16:9, but 18.5:9 is just too much.
Of course I'd like a removable battery too, the Notes are supposed to be tools. Note 8 is too similar to an S8+, so I'll keep my Note 4 and wait for Note 9. Or maybe I should start realizing that my next phone won't have a stylus.
I voted nothing, because it is not "amazing" or "perfect", it is just pretty good, but at a price tag which is too high. I wouldn't concern it great in times when the next iPhone generation is around the corner, because the Note is just a blocky dual-cam version of the half-year old Galaxy S8.
Nope. I hoped for a flat screen. 4000+ battery. Bezels so I can protect it with the tpu cover. Unique features, like the s4 had back when Samsung was unique and different.
While I voted for 'Yes, it's perfect!', the truth is, Smartphones need to START innovating Again. Samsung may be at the forefront of things, but he Smartphone Camera quality has pretty much remained constant since the Galaxy S6. Since then, improvements have been minor. While the Galaxy Pixel is hailed as having a superb camera, the truth is, it is only slightly better than the other cameras around, and the HTC U11 and LG G6 have slowly better camera has the Pixel.
Also while the iPhone and a few other shave dual camera setups, they stop working in the dark, or the Lack of OIS on the 2nd camera causes some Seriously bad results. The iPhone's dual camera setups is actually a joke. It misfires wrt to which camera to engage many a times.
I was hoping that the Note 8 actually employs 2 Sets of Dual Camera, so that it seriously improves zoom range. The Essential Phone and a few others smartphones cameras use the dual setup for Image Fusion, but the results aren't even as good as the best 5 smartphone cameras out there, so that route has been very poorly managed, as of yet.
The next step would be something on the lines of the l16 Light Camera. And the good news is that the Light Camera has Mostly been far from perfect. So Samsung can tweak the algorithms, seriously improve the processing power as well as the optics and have great photos.
Samsung needs to sit down with Sony to ensure that the Next Sets of its Smartphone Camera Sensors are not Off The Shelf, but Specifically made for the camera revolutions that Samsung has been constantly urshering in.
Flossy420, 27 Aug 2017How are they supposed to upgrade the CPU when they're already using the best chipset?
Do you ... moreFirst of all there are SoC revisions. And there was already a couple changes to arm designs hitting around the time these SoC's hit. Not the A75 and G72. Though they are not far off.
But a few things to setup and instructions and what not. Anything for bumps in performance or efficiency. They used to do it every year.
And it's 6.3 inch yes. But unless it's like 6.34 or.36 or so then it's not even actually an inch bigger than the S8+. And these 18:9:1 displays are more narrow and not actually as much surface screen as they sound like.
Sony had 6.44 in the Z Ultra. And that was 16:9.
They could have squeezed 6.4 or 6.44 inch.
Don't reply just to try and trash on others or hear yourself rant. Cause you might get schooled.

Do you want Snapdragon 1000?
And about the screen size, if you want something bigger, get a note tablet
6.3" is already huge

Just like a few iphones, lgs, and nokias spontaneously combusted. A fraction does not equal the whole. Generalizations are a logical fallacy.
I define this phone more like expectation than surprise. Only pen device, there is just nothing to compare it to. Microsoft, where are you?
It does suck in many ways. But I can see things from all angles.
And aside from all the things people and even myself have complained there are other things people don't or won't realize.
Like the price. Yes it's a lot. But also people are not realizing. After the promotions the price will go down. And it does have some of the most expensive tech in it.
And the promotions are things like $200-$300 freebies.
Anywhere from $150-$530 "with special deals trade in" off with monthly payments as low as $12.
And free $100 headphones included.
You're getting the best Android has to offer in features, display, SoC's, and VR.
And while the battery life will just not be what it should be we know Samsung has good efficiency. While having a bigger brighter "best display" it actually consumes less overall power. Along with the 10nm SoC efficiency.
You get better design language to most note users. Shape wise...Sad I have to point things out like that to not have whiners. 6GB ram. There are usually more upgrades and stuff going on under the hood that we do not know about until a little bit later on.
Dual cam with dual OIS and dual set up dual pixel focus. And 2x optical zoom.
However of course...For true Note users, not everyone likes the edges. They look nice and all but not everyone's cup of tea. At least with the Note Edge it had functions. Though they took half of the functions away in updates.....
Supposedly the Note 4 is not eligible for the trade in options but the S5 is?????
No stereo speakers.
Small pixels and small aperture on the second camera.
No actually sensor or lens improvement.
Not even minimal SoC refinements...that we know of.
Expensive.
Glass all around.
Small battery with safety as the excuse, but there is no excuse comparing the size and capacity. Especially when components are getting smaller like the SoC.
Anonymous, 27 Aug 2017Sd card problem solvedI use two sim slots....problem remains.
Notes were for power users. Would it had killed them to upgrade the CPU and bring back the physical buttons? The Infinity display sure looks pretty but isn't convenient. Also, the screen should've been bigger.
The Note FE is not available and not really a bargain. Down to two phones left for me this year, the V30 and Mi Mix 2
yes played with live samsung galaxy note 8 --yesterday ..ref earlier comment ..courtesy samsung rep ..thank you ..
AnonD-237590, 27 Aug 2017Nope, waiting for iPhone 8How does that make sense. The iphone will have every complaint here and then worse.
