they only updated the hardware to match 2016 specs...

Am I the only one who is not impressed with "full view" displays and does not see them as a desirable feature? Because, like, it gives you practically no space to put a finger on the front of the device, making it ever harder to hold in hand. And the price goes up, which I'm not a fan of. And it makes harder to guess approximate device size from screen diagonal. And it doesn't add useful screen space in most situations, it just adds more space that will become black bars in videos...
