Google and HTC will be great duo.
Google does good job at software and HTC has been always known for its high quality hardware.

HTC CEO is the 2nd wealthiest person in Taiwan, they arent needy of money or experimental project or bigger company (OPPO) Like OnePlus. HTC got nothing to prove and they became stubborn and the result, people threw them just like Nokia and Microsoft Lumia. All three of them are too proud to change their own philosophy or listen to critics for good. Everyone listens Samsung, LG, OnePlus even Asus made changes to Zenfone 4. I was so shocked to see company like Xiaomi who are proudly overlaying android UI with miui now went with Android one. Now that's called smart business. Customer satisfaction is always first before company's pride. I will say Sony is the next target.

too bad HTC was a hell of good smartphones, with stereo speakers and stuff. But the design and the price was much to be desired. That HTC black bar over the speakers was always present for 4 years when people asked to remove it. HTC never heard the consumer so it's partially their fault they're at this situation they're in right now.
I seriously don't feel sorry for HTC
Same thing happened to ZTE and LG in the smartphone department. Even tho these 2 aren't doing wonders their revenue is always profit.
HTC is losing money because they ond't inovate enough, they should start producing budget phones.
----
Look at OnePlus, they listen to the consumer, when peolpe complained about the same design shape they totally revamped the oneplus 5. And look at it, best sales ever for oneplus. HTC has to learn just to jump on a project and stop doing the same thing year and year straight

I hope HTC's acquisition will translate in high quality phones(hardware, because software is already briliant), not a hole in the bank account, Google doesn't have unlimited money for hardware...

I think the best one was the One M7 because it was a major departure, but a "better" departure. The second-best is the 10 because it is a really solid evolution, ironing out the issues of the predecessor M9 while bringing together the best things of the phones from M7 and up while also bringing some worth upgrades like the abandonment of bloatware.

kenosis , 07 Sep 2017Will HTC be like Motorola? hopefully not. In Google times, they were good, in lenovo times, they are just typical chinese with some nostalgic.

It`s a sad thing for once promising company,HTC.But for years they didn`t have anything to compete in a top-end category, same thing in a low-end where Xiaomi rules, along with other chinese brands. And few months ago they finally came up with excellent product-U11,arguably one of the very best phones globally right now.And it looks like Google isn`t pleased to compete with U11 which will be a match for new Pixel2 in every aspect, but hundreds of $ cheaper..550Euro incl.delivery for EU(6/128gb version)..

But that would be an invitation to make Android run better on their own device by adding speed bumps in the general available version of Android.

I wonder, if Google will indeed buy HTC, history will repeat itself, or not? It would be sad for HTC to end up like this. They have made some good devices in the past.

Too sad HTC is in this situation.

Phones are good, but many mistakes were made.

1) 10 EVO : sd810 again in 2017. The 652 would be better and cheaper choice.

2) U Ultra could have been brought a couple weeks before Xmas, not in 2017. Price higher than u11

3) no jack. Htc has great audio system but many like the easy and simple wired ear/headphones. Wireless can be expensive in many countries.

4) many ppl will get mi6 or op5 even when they cant offer half of u11, but way cheaper.

I hope this doesn't turn out to be one of Google's high-fanfare buys (think Motorola & Boston Dynamics), only to take away their patents, make them weaker and to be sold with a whimper after a few years. Microsoft did the same thing to Nokia.

But, it's true that HTC is a sinking ship and with moves like removing the 3.5 mm headphone jack, they aren't doing themselves any favour.
