That's because AT&T made some kind of agreement with TCL for exclusive rights to sell a black K1.
Because the silver version much better defines the BlackBerry brand.
Bit of a shame but in all honesty the phone runs great on 3GB of RAM and the micro SD slot makes on-board storage negligible. The blacked out design is nice, but the standard silver edition has a nice contrasted and solid look to it, and is just as nice.
