Or if you have let's say console, it can do same as apple tv box, do you really need this Dolby vision stuff to pay 179 dollars?

Who cares for hardware today, even Intel Atoms can handle 4K, but availability of 4K content, that is major issue and Apple could be one those who can push distribution to finaly move forward.

I have 4K monitor three years now, i would love to use it for more than work and some light games, that my old GPU can handle in 4K :-D

Vegetaholic, 12 Sep 2017I almost laugh my ass out, when during presentation guy was explaining 4k and hdr like it is 2... moreIt's the first device to have HDR and Dolby Vision (I have the Shield and it doesn't do Dolby Vision).

Plus, Apple TV's UX is by far the best of all the major streaming boxes, with the best designed apps.

I didn't watch the presentation, so can't comment, but I will buy the new ATV as soon as it comes out.

Up until now Apple had no route for end users to utilize 4k hdr tech. Now they do. They very well may end up incorporating 4k hdr tech into their computer displays, tablets, and mobile handsets.

This is probably the most impressive and influential move done by Apple (considering this event).
This could help to spread "4K love" big time.

Apple should stop fooling people immediately. All 4k TVs are already smart enough and provide streaming services, most of them are Android powered and have pre-loaded all major services. Even HD TVs have this from long time, then there are smart set up boxes. So what is the Apple TV for? You need a 4k TV to connect Apple's firestick known as Apple TV. Why is it needed? To stream content on your TV? I've a samsung oled 4k, it's already pre-loaded with all that so why would I need an apple TV for my TV. Apple can't produce real TVs and fooling people with a streaming box which is really useless.

[deleted post]Oh man, that's quite a big stretch. I believe that even sheeps knew 4K resolution years ago by the 4K and 5K reso iMacs. If it's about TV, I'm sure they had a 4K TV for a console or something.
