Very ugly design for iphone x apple could have done a better job very disappointed even iphone 8 & 8 plus are identical to its predecessor apple is definitely going to lose their market because of its incompetency and failure to produce innovative models

'Notches' don't reduce the display area, they increase it (vs. top bezel). The status bar can live in those corners, leaving more display space for apps. Unlike 'edge' screens, they don't distort and hide actual display area behind your grip.

It doesn’t, video doesn’t reach there. You can enjoy your videos without notch.

Does manufacturers actually read these articles and comments?
And if they do, do they take these into betragtning?
Has anyone any idea?
Perhaps GSMarena should do a poll to them and publish those results.
I would like to know if manufacturers actually read users-comments and act upon, or if they ignore everyone and just do whatever they want.

I'd take a slightly longer bezel than that hideous cutout, any day of the week.

Very BAD idea. It looses video information at those corners, and worse, if you buy a case protector, its lips and borders cannot grip and wrap with enough material to protect the device adequately. But in this case, I bet there will be a software fix that will correct through simple resizing.
The worst case happens with the bent screen for the superb high-end devices from Samsung. The screen is very difficult to protect with anti-drop cases without loosing visibility. And maybe costs are higher due to the weird topology. I do not care about weird fads affecting the functionality, but the problem is that the weird models become the only devices available!!!

Rounded corners at most! The iPhone X and Essential phone look stupid, especially the iPhone, web pages and videos are ruined by that stupid notch in the iPhone, it's utterly poor design and they will never do it again, I can bet the iPhone 9 will be all screen but they will find a way to not have that stupid notch.

Anonymous, 24 Sep 2017Mi mix's camera placement is great, especially if you turn it upside down when using it.Absolutely right. But still, I wonder why doesn't Xiaomi increase the upper bezel and put the front camera and the earpiece sensor there and instead reduced the thicker lower bezel. So we don't have to rotate the phone to avoid weird looking selfies.
Also, if make one-handed video calls, the camera is in the right position (and not looking at your face from your throat) and your fingers are correctly positioned on the volume/power buttons too.

In 2014, I got the Sharp Aquos Crystal X... I got full 5.5" solid screen, a great single firing speaker and reasonable battery life even though it's capacity was only 2610mAh, one of the smallest during it's time to power a screen of more than 5"...
Now in 2017, 3 years later, suddenly the bezel less fever struck... Sharp joined back the bandwagon, but then the S2 was a "what?" with the 'illuminati' centre top camera slapped there...
