I clicked "Yes, a great feature", but my true answer is that they don't particularly bother me.
If you've gotta do it, then do it.

Ok so would you like cutout on your TV?
Would you like cutout when you go to the cinema?
Dont be stupid, we all know its a distraction to the experience.
Is this the "premium" Apple experience? A distraction on the viewing screen?
Just admit it and lets be honest, a billion dollar company, is not up to scratch with their technology to incorporate no cutouts with camera sensor etc etc.
This is just a phase while they are still figuring out a workaround to a full touchscreen but still have the selfie camera, other sensors etc.
Ugly AF like the 18:9 ratio

One of the obvious reason why they do this is to force consumer to buy their phone accessories.
The notch is not a feature, not a design element. It is a compromise. A needless one at that.
The visual real-estate either side of a cut out is not really of any value to be honest, except to be a momentary difference for difference sake but your eye won't look at screen at side of cut out.
I would rather the a thin to moderate bezel to house the components to keep it neat. In that regard, I'm kinda liking what Nokia 9 is going to look like or the HTC U 11+ or Google for that matter.
you do know that when watching videos you can cut that little bit of top section off.... so why are so many complaints?
At least the Essential phone hides the notch when playing or viewing videos and photos through black bars on the top. On the iCrap X, the fugly notch crops out the content
Android will follow - if only to defuse the iPhones attempt at standing out among smartphones - now after the big round home button is gone.
No one wants s big phone. But every one want a big display. Utilizing the horns around the camera for short standalone values like the clock and various status thus seems straight forward.
Personally, I don't like them. They are weird and doesn't look good. Samsung did a great move with the small bezels and rounded screen, but i rather flat cornered 16\9 screens.
There are many apps that round flat corners, i have one on my Z5 so no need for the real deal. I can have my screen as rounded as i like as it is.

He's saying that whenever an Android phone came out with a genuinely new feature it wouldn't be boasted about to the extreme....but whenever Apple came out with a new iPhone, even though they brought absolutely nothing new to the market (6/6 Plus, 6s/6s Plus, 7/7 Plus, 8/8 Plus) Apple would find something to advertise TO THE DEATH ("Retina Display" [just increased ppi, even though other phones had higher ppi counts], "Portrait Mode
AnonD-147910, 24 Sep 2017For me cutouts are fine ONLY if the screen is AMOLED. What difference does that make? It'll still cover a portion of your screen even if its AMOLED.
how do you feel about screen cutouts?
its annoying AF !
Cut outs are hella ugly.

I already tried myself an S8, and in fact, I also tried so many smartphones this year already, and my favorite one is still the XZ Premium. Its bezels are large, but the 4K HDR IPS LCD is just gorgeous to look at, and its 16:9 ratio means every single content will be played with no problems at all.
The fact that these stupid changes will be a norm in the future just worries me so much and I hope that there will be a savior to let me get out of this ridiculous trend in the future.
Screen cutouts are like modular. They will end up being nothing but just an experimental concept.
You can see what happened to LG after they did that with their G5.
AnonD-700979, 24 Sep 2017according to you apple comes first with all these good functions quick charge, water resistanc... moreActually, he said that Android did many things first, just doesn't boast about it, like Apple likes to do.
On the matter of Dolby on phones, it actually first was implemented on the LG Renoir (KC910, which was a nice phone btw, which could do things iPhones still can't do), before Android really became a thing.
I'm not only against cutouts, but also cutdowns, especially in healthcare and elder care.
I also don't like anything over 130 mm in length and 4.7".
