Anonymous, 27 Sep 2017Like they don't look the same past 10 years. At least they looked different from everything else out there.
Anonymous, 27 Sep 2017lmao...they caved... :) Now what fanbois? I thought bezel was best???Bezels are there because of internal components that no other phone has. If Sony would do an 18:9 bezel less phone with dual front stereo speakers and a 1/3.06" 13mp AF front camera, then they have just killed the competition once again. And even if Sony ever moves to bezel less, they'll make sure that what they're doing is safe and the quality of the device will be top-notch and not being rushed like Samsung or LG, which is what takes them time before developing something, but better be late than never, especially when that 'late' thing is the actual winner of all.
Jimbob, 27 Sep 2017Sony always late to the partyBut they always kill the party when they join it.
And would Sony's 2018 models have OLED screens?
Would they finally have OIS cameras?
And as said before, I really hope they sould keep the front facing stereo speakers!

Sony was all about durability, now hearing that they will switch from omnibalance to the bezel-less pornstar design. Sony shouldn't listen to Samsung fans, not everything should look like Samsung. If you want bezeless go Samsung, LG, Xiaomi or that iPhone X. Not everyone like bezel-less display and that's because bezels were designed for grip protection where bezel-less display lacks the most. Would anyone call iPhone X a gaming device? No because it has no bezels to hold on to.
Hwelvaar, 27 Sep 2017Why is the market going 18:9 ?
The standard was 16:9, just like TV's, and jus... moreBecause 16:9 is not the standard for movies. The standard for movies is 2.39:1, or 21.51:9. So 18:9 is somewhere in the middle between the HDTV 16:9 and the cinematic 2.39:1.
Give side bezels like xa1+ (has fps on the side), halve the top and bottom bezels and keep stereo speakers. 18:9 is alright but wouldn't want to see device height increase. Add OIS, improved and always on HDR, louder audio and larger battery's (compact and xa1+ have enough already) and they'll have an amazing high end lineup.
Go back to z2/z5 style speaker slits, reduce top/bottom bezels as much as possible, keep the overall design. That's it. Much updated look and still have signature Sony look which I love.
also improve your damn so call loud speakers and remove the limitations.
Finally, we waited an eternity for a bezelless phone with front stereo speakers ! :)
Hwelvaar, 27 Sep 2017Why is the market going 18:9 ? Really, why? The standard was 16:9, just like TV's, and jus... moreSo you can add screen size without adding width and/or increase screen to body ratio without sacrificing space for battery.
hope they design better than have been xperia used to be name people would be waiting to buy now its just a mediocre high price brand that never brings quite enough to the table, come on sony bring back the glory days of the xperia mobiles add something special to your range toppers
Ahah. He said new, not bezeless.
I bet ya all new Sony wont look anything like the "bezeless design" competition. :-P
Why is the market going 18:9 ?
The standard was 16:9, just like TV's, and just like content (series, movies, games).
So perfect fit on your mobile screen.
So now wih 18:9 we'll either get black bars on the side, or cropped content.
A Note 4 user, 27 Sep 2017The simple fact that sony does not have any decent bezelless phones YET clearly demonstrates t... moreYou forget about the rest of us that actually bought the phone for it's design line.
The design, waterproof and SD card slot were the features i bought a Sony.
What makes me want to buy another Sony (after a few years of using one) are the software updates and optimization and damn good quality build.
My phone is 4 years old and it's still rocking.
Actually I'm a bit reluctant towards bezeless displays because they are not strong enough. I admit they look awesome and I'll definitely buy a bezeless Sony, but I'll be always scared it will be full of cracks like most of the S7's and S8's I've seen.
So if you want a bezeless phone, be ready to pay 50% more for a second display or wait till Gorilla Glass 10 is on the market 😁
I know people like bezel-less today, even if that makes using the phone a chore with unintended touches.
I used to make fun of Sony's huge bottom bezel. However, I am realizing how it is actually user friendly as it prevents my palm to accidentally touch anything on the bottom corners. This happens a lot with other phones like Samsung.
