AnonD-696124, 27 Sep 2017nobody is willing to buy a laggy handset either. This is clearly low end, it's a 4-5$ chipset ... moreWell, I have MT6737 device but it's working well enough while another with MT6580 is quite laggy. Redmi 4a was one of the most popular budget phone, but its cpu is sd425 which has a quite similar architecture to MT6737. This cpu is not as terrible as you think.

This is clearly low end, it's a 4-5$ chipset while the snapdragon counterpart is estimated 70-80$. Phones with this SOC are expected to be laggy and already obsolete with newer apps being developed.
phones with this SOC shouldn't be higher than 80%, just saying

pretty sure this is on the ancient 28nm process. Currently I have the Lenovo p1m (Got for dad and sis) with mediatek 6735 at 1GHz and both their phones are laggy as hell. Time to change mediatek, your phones in the low end suck big time.

Well, it's just an entry-level SoC, so naturally there's not so much to say. But let's say that it's a new chip (pros&cons) and so welcome too.

Obviously not a preferred SoC but when your phone takes a crap and you need a hold-me-over, this will make for a better $50-$75 phone than the mt6735, once it gets cheap enough to make... It'll probably be as fast as the sd425 which is about the minimum amount of power it takes to run a smartphone... Still waiting for the 1st actual entry level SoC to not use 28nm (sd450 not withstanding)

Stop Mediatek. Why not ARM A35 at 2.0 Ghz on GloFo 22nm process?

The Power VR GPU is decent. But... Why not use it on the Helio P series?

I will never buy any Mediatek phone again. Any Snapdragon CPU with same GHZ speed will work much better.

This should not be in smartphones more expensive than $ 100 or even $60

What with A53 cores on cheap chipsets? Why not use A72 or something. How much more expensive would be the different? How much harder is it to be manufactured? Why even bother with this low end chipset? Sure, you get a beautiful bezel less 18:9 phone from the looks but performed like crap.
