Cause cutout screens are nonsens, including that iphoneX with even bigger one.
Jason, 28 Sep 2017It just simply overpriced. Too overpriced for a gadget with mid range specs... I wonder how do you name the combination of a bezel less display, a SD835 and 4GB ram a mid ranger!
What year are you living in? is it 2020 or so?
Although the company owned by famous person, but still have to start from the bottom with a budget good smartphone. At that level people will want to try something new than flagship level.
Look at those chinese Huawei, xiaomi etc. They start from the bottom.
Should have been sold at $500,
How come an "Essential" phone doesn't have a headphone jack which is Essential for many people.
Kangal, 28 Sep 2017I hope the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X sales are like this.
Not because I hate thos... moreYes, that would be totally awesome.
They should paint an apple on the back and sell it as iPhone X2:
"Announcing the iPhone X2, which bears a lot of improvements over the iPhone X:
- we have greatly reduced the size of the notch, it's very small now
- we've brought back Touch ID, no more unreliable Face ID
- battery size has been increased from 2716 mAh to 3040 mAh
- resolution has been increased to 1312 x 2560 pixels, with an amazing 504 ppi
- Protection has been upgraded to Gorilla Glass 5
- internal memory has been doubled, from 64GB to 128GB
- RAM has been increased from 3GB to 4GB
- new titanium frame for increased durability
- camera upgrade: 12->13mp back, 7->8mp front
- better fast charging, with adapter now out of the box
- new price, now $300 less
As an iPhone X2, with all those numerous improvements over the iPhone X, it would sell like cupcakes.
It was too overpriced for a company that just started and late shipping also added to bad reputation and they only make hardware as its stock android (mostly not sure about completely) look at nokia8 being an old player didnt start at $700 the only way for them to sell is drop to lowest profit margin
I bet a lot of potential buyers are holding their breath for the Nokia 9, as this seems a somewhat similar device. And even though it is a new company, the "Nokia" label still catches attention...
mike, 28 Sep 2017I'm still amazed no one in the West will offer a Xiaomi style flaghsip phone for 300 bucks. Al... moreMost likely because of patents and licensing fees in the west. It's a "free market" as long as you keep paying the guys who figured out the tech first.
The Android smartphone space is incredibly well saturated. I wish Essential would have done something bold like competing with the Note series with a good stylus integration. Getting an "okay phone" with premium build for this price just doesn't cut it.
Pixel Note please.
It just simply overpriced. Too overpriced for a gadget with mid range specs...
Anonymous, 28 Sep 2017If Phone Arena gave a score of 4 to this phone and all iphones earn at least 9... This must be... moreYup! PA gave the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro, which is a somewhat garbage phone, a rating of 6.5 versus the Essential's 4 rating. Assuming they are objective in their reviews then the Essential, is, err well, ... need I say more?
If Phone Arena gave a score of 4 to this phone and all iphones earn at least 9... This must be really bad phone
$1050 cdn for purchase in Canada... It's was dead before it had a chance, Telus Mobility forced a min $95/month 2 year contract on it here which was dirt on the grave. Add to it the countess early reviews about the cameras, non waterproof and avg spec sheet I don't even know why they bothered to launch in Canada. Even at a severe discount I wudnt touch it... $1050 for LCD screen! LOL! Maybe I'll check back in a year or 2 if Andy if still makingg phones. :)
JMTM , 28 Sep 2017Well come to America then wjere you can be a new S8 For less than $500In Europe, some countries Amazon has S8 for around 530-550 euro. Not bad. In retail stores still costs 700-800.
sr777, 28 Sep 2017The price of an OP is almost the same as of a flagship in my country. Well come to America then wjere you can be a new S8
For less than $500
I'm still amazed no one in the West will offer a Xiaomi style flaghsip phone for 300 bucks. All greedy sob's. You can not sell 700$ phone if you're not Apple or Samsung. That's it. Even LG can not do it and their phones to be honest are pretty damn good.
It's over with Essential, move along, nothing to see here:)
Drop it to 550 then 500 and then 400
Maybe you might be able to unload some finally
You think Samsung and Apple built their reputation
In $700 flagship segment in one day?
I hope essential still be around next year otherwise
I would feel sorry for those actually bought this phone
"...is exclusive to the smallest US carrier – Sprint. The only other country to get it is Canada, a European launch was confirmed but the timing is still up in the air."
It only makes sense, being compared to any other phones that were sold globally, and to think they only just started. They need to work out with their prices though - my folks here doesn't even heard of their brand.
