I was excited about the 'Hide Online Presence" toggle. It seemed like after all these years, Facebook finally gave us some privacy on the app. Did some testing with friends and found that if you are using the Lite app, you cannot see when the other person was last active. However, people using the regular app can still see when you're Active or how long since you've logged in. Regardless of whether or not you have turned off the Active and Hide Online Presence toggles.

This has been my one huge beef with Messenger and a constant source of frustration. A lot of people take it personally and get butthurt if you haven't responded to them yet - but they've seen that you've been active and "ignored" their message. Facebook has never given us the option to be incognito.

This is also problematic with my profession. A lot of my clients who use Android phones prefer to "text" via Messenger and thus I feel pressured to respond immediately when I open the app. My friends and I have tested every possible way around this and there is no solution. I don't want 700+ people being able to see when I am on my phone and responding to messages. It just feels like a huge invasion of privacy.

:/

I have an xperia L1 in the UK, switched to messenger lite when I read this and my battery is so much better and the phone lags less, I have storage warnings now. Only feature I miss is changing chat colours as I find blue hard on my eyes

A lot of persons complain about the main Facebook Messenger being too heavy and being slow but that's NOT the case on my phone. It seems like a Lite on my phone and the bubbles are as fast as anything and no I don't have the very latest flagship I have a S5.

I really hate the classic Messenger app but no video calls in the Lite version is a show stopper for me :-(

FINALLY i will be able to download it from the playstore, i had downloaded an older version from an APK site and was happy using an older version because the full Messenger is all bloat, i don't need it for those instagram story rip offs or anything except sending messages and also speeding up my phone and saving battery is a plus.

FINALLY !
Thank-you for this. Been annoyed by the regular messenger app for some time because it did too much that I didn't want.

This App needs to released for more countries, especially developed nations such as AUS/NZ. People are sick and tired of bloated Apps that slow your experience, drain your battery, and track your movements.
