So despite BB usually being very quick on the updates, they were VERY late this time...

Root and ROM is awesome for Nexus devices though, but your claim that you need to be rooted just take manually "flash" aka adb sideload updates is totally wrong.

I have been using nexus phones for long only to understand even google phones would not get proper update in Android world. I cannot trust Pixel phones even though there is so much hype created by google around it wrt to after sale support especially.

Google mailed me today and told me that its Huawei's responsibility to provide updates for 'Nexus' 6P. I think its just BS. Can't believe it came out from Google store support.
Then what's the point of buying Pixel and Nexus phones?
Nexuses ?

But i dont understand why there could be more than one builds for same handset.
I owned a Nexus 6 build MOB31K. Still did not receive Nougat upgrade and the security updates stopped around Oct, 2016. There are no official update for my device after that and there was no proper reply from google. You can check all factory Images for nexuses here https://developers.google.com/android/images. I dont quite understand why there are hundreds of different builds even for carrier free handsets. Is Google is trying to sell latest handset same model with different build so they get latest updates ? Is not that cheap tactics ?
Come on Nokia

(well not you specifically, but others)
Google has dropped the ball, by abandoning the Nexus program and setting sails with their Pixel lineup. This is making other OEMs, like SONY, look great in comparison.
Hopefully, other OEMs pickup their game. I wonder, how this will affect HTC if they end up getting acquired by Google.
Google has not yet provided Oreo upgrade or September security patches (on OTA) for Unlocked Nexus 6P purchased in US. Tried contacting Google and they didn't give any meaningful info on why there's a delay.
Now, you are talking about October 2017, security patches. It's a joke!
What about Android one device MI A1 ?
