What distortions?
It is clearly seeable from this compare that Samsungs offering has more distortion, and apples one is quite on the same distortion levels.
Don't have always had a pretty good idea what users actually want, not gimmicks. Its laughable to watch plebs talking about bezels, as the internet told them they should have any phone with a bezel... They don't seem to understand how bloggers are paid..
I have a xz p and a friend just bought an iphone 8 plus, we have compared and my xzp makes the iphone obsolete.
As one of XZ1's user I can't accept as a good flagship.
The camera's distortion issues is really annoy me.

But I prefer it hat way, it has better exposure range. I like the contrast and shadow punch in lowlight shots I make on Xperia. With bigger apperture you just cant hide detail in lowlight, cant catch the shadows. It comes at a price of higher ISO for brighter shots tho, but Xperia does it very well, with low noise but also somewhat lower detail on crops.
Overall 1:1, photos look quite better on Xperias
If they think that sony phones are bad then they can buy samsung or iphones . As for me thats the way sony is running their celphone businness.
Xperia flagship quality superb, battery remain flat after 3years, unlike iphone 8 not even 3months, samsung note only last 2years
I purchased outright every Sony flagship up to Z5 with exception to the Z3+.
They lost many users for some of if not all of the following reasons;
Releasing new flagship every six months, meant phones lost patch upgrade support almost after just one year, and each new phone was very minimally different, it was just a catch up to the others refresh.
Were stupidly slow in updating phones very few if any security patches, and reneged on their major release upgrade promises, after customer uproar flipped again.
Camera as mentioned by many here rubbish for 20 plus MP, all images just looked like 8 MP scaled up by interpolation due to the lack of details.
Camera launching was so ridiculously slow and or buggy.
Took too long to provide flagship with QHD screens.
Screens early on were rubbish especially for a flagship.
Had quick charge 2.0 but only shipped normal charger, plus they should have had 3.0 much earlier on.
File transfers from Phone to PC or vice versa were so slow with the terrible USB 2.0 interface, should have had USB 3 much earlier.
That new phone does look great, but now I moved from Z5 to Pixel XL don't think I will ever go back to Sony
AnonD-113455, 09 Oct 2017haha too many hot votes from Sony fanbois but only a few bought one.Very true.
Xperia XZ for $400 was something I considered until I saw how pretty bad the camera was.
When it (XZ1) was hot: f/1.4, Xenon flash, smaller bezels, real stereo speakers... And finally logical+ good price! Overall, XZ1 is colder than Katy perry... Lol

They want $ per unit, not huge sales...
One phone for 700 is better than 2 per 500.
More profits per unit...

Have has Xperia phones since z1 bought SIM free xz1. I'm disappointed. Camera is the biggest let down. My old z5 and xz are much better. Sony need to sort their camera software. Also the screen keeps going bright and dark when I'm using the phone. Bottom line sort your software (and hardware) before rushing a sub standard product to market.
It's funny how Sony makes smartphone camera sensors and also into the camera business yet they can't manage the camera on their phones to deliver similar or better image quality compared to the competition. The camera on the XZ1 performs awfully in low light. It's actually far from flagship grade. Sony gets all the love here but it's still making losses.
Well, things are not looking so good for Sony...the previous financial YEAR they sold only 14.6 million phones and in the last quarter only 2.9 million phones, the lowest since 2010. The profit forcast is only 50% in the current financial year compared to the previous year. That is devastating. No wonder they are talking about overhauling the design.
