KamAbdi, 08 Oct 2017Look Mr. Anonymous I don't work for Apple and I don't speculate or guess. I follow the technol... moreHaha, now you bring up you education! Let me tell you I got a similar education and 10 years of working experience. Does that make me an expert on how well Apple has implemented FaceID? No, not at all. I don't care about your eduction, it brings nothing to this discussion. As long as you don't work at Apple you are speculating. Thats a fact.
You talk about the "technology itself". Why? We are talking about current implementations in smartphones, not the potential security of a technology. It does not make the security on my phone any bit safer if the implementation is crap.
Apple did not do this as a backup plan. Its ridiculous to think that and you will understand that during your education. Again, they bought the company PrimeSense in 2013, this have been in work for a long time. Comparing it to a simple 2D version like the one in Samsung is a joke. Its two completely different implementations, a 3D version being a lot more secure of course.
Anonymous, 08 Oct 2017Kid, you've been watching too many spy movies on TV.You stop being a kid = a troll and open your mind. :)
What a narrow mind kid you are :) XD
Anonymous, 08 Oct 2017Believe what you want to believe. Your opinions but not facts, that's fine as well.
The finge... moreI'm saying facts because I study computer engineering.
And I always knew the future of the finger print to be embedded under the display. I'm saying a fact but your just trolling here because your iFan.
Anonymous, 08 Oct 2017Since you do not work at Apple and because of that do not have a clue how well FaceID actually... moreLook Mr. Anonymous I don't work for Apple and I don't speculate or guess. I follow the technology and these companies and read more tech magazines than you do apparently.
I studied IT and going to study next year Computer engineering which is hardware engineering, so it is my job to understand something I want to study and know about, besides it, I have passion for it.
Yes Iris scanner is more secure. Let me explain. Because Iris scanner and the finger scanner are a government tech. When Samsung did it, they build it from the scratch because is a manufacturer, unlike Apple. Every tech company works with their military and government. When Sony did ip 65 certification, they worked with the Japanese military, because these technologies are from the military. Another example, the LG V30, it has STD MIL which is a military tech which consists on anti-shock and anti-shake objects.
Why I'm not talking about Samsung for two things, 1. Samsung is still using the finger print as a primary more secure option unlike Apple who ditched the FP scanner, to use on Samsung pay and it more developed in the phone industry. 2. I'm talk about the technology itself, because when the government and banks uses this tech, they make it for a big hardware material and the software becomes easier because the hardware facilitates for it.
So when you say in the smartphone implementation, it means its challenged, because the iris and fp are put in small chips. That's why I'm saying its not ready yet because their is the possibility they could fail.
The way your talking is defending, because I didn't say the tech is bad. No. I said its not ready because it needs for more time to mature. This tech existed in the android phones in 2D mode in a long time ago, when apple did it they enhanced it by making it a 3D not inventing it. Apple was doing it now not before and they did it as a backup plan, in case the implementation of the FP under the display didn't work. Though they were doing it both to feature as a second secure option. Because when they implement these features they are heavily under development in first year and under development all the time.
Besides, if this tech is so good, why Apple did the fingerprint instead of using the Face ID?
Why no other company didn't do.
I didn't criticise the finger print, on the contrary, I praised it and it's a good feature. In fact, most of the people say gimmick for every teach or smart feature appears, because they don't know what is technology, yes, these companies compete against each other but what they do is innovation but Apple isn't an innovator.
Final nail on privacy's coffin.

3D imaging? Did everyone just forget about the Sony Xperia XZ1 with its 3D imaging feature??

Anonymous, 08 Oct 2017Since you do not work at Apple and because of that do not have a clue how well FaceID actually... moreThe thing I hate about all face recognition solutions is due to their battery consumption. Iris etc... used to consume significant battery. Wanted to check how well Apple handles the battery with Face ID. Battery tech is almost standstill for year even though many safer, better technologies are still in research stage for years. Any new tech in mobile however good it may be, if it consumes significant battery, I would not be interested in using it. Eagerly waiting to check how Face ID affect battery and how well Apple handles it.

Think about it, didn't they at least check if the phone's FaceID is working well before presenting?
If this was a Thesis defense and if I were your panel, I would've given you a failing grade.

I can use Sony's 3D Creator App on the Xperia XZ1 to capture a person using the iPhone X, then print a 3D model of the 3D image that I've captured, and I could then pretty much use it to bypass the FaceID of the iPhone X."

KamAbdi, 08 Oct 2017Yes you are lying to yourself and I'm not asking you to trust me. I'm telling you that it is n... moreSince you do not work at Apple and because of that do not have a clue how well FaceID actually works all you do is speculate and guess when you say its not ready. You can not know that.
And you say that iris scanner is much more secure but then you say you don't talk about Samsungs iris scanner... that just proven my point. You can't say this solution is more secure another, its depending on the implementation. One solution might have potential to be more secure but we are talking about FaceID specifically here we should of course compare it to current tech. So you can not say that FaceID is less secure until its been tested.
Yes you are lying to yourself and I'm not asking you to trust me. I'm telling you that it is not ready and I saw it and do my researches in google. Samsung's tech isn't ready either
but i wasn't talking about Samsung's tech, I was talking about the tech itself.
Look, the hardware is their and implemented and it is good the rest consists of software.
Because no one works without the other.
Im not here defending Apple, i'm saying you do not know that FaceID don't work because you or hardly anyone else has tried it yet. In my book you do not go by speculation and guesses, I want tests and hard facts to make up my mind. Simple as that. It was the same thing with TouchID people was criticising it before the launch and now they can't live without it. FaceID might work great or it might not, lets wait and see...

AnonD-656673, 08 Oct 2017Face unlocking is basically useless when you're in front of a bright light, or you're a person... moreOily skin wasn't the problem. The problem is the facial recognition is always scanning, and because too many people handled the phone, the amount of wrong attempts maxed out by the time he wanted to demonstrate it at the keynote. It's like maxing out the number of fingerprint scans on your phone before having to enter the password instead. A serious design flaw if you ask me.
