Cataloging future is now here, not only corporations owns our fingerprint but now will have complete 3D images of our mugs stored for years, for the sake of "security" :) last they will just install chips in our bodies in case you will loose your phone, phone will track you back and return to you in emergency of misplace :) for the sake of "security" :)
This is article is so biased and this analyst is a lier and been paid by apple because Andriod did this technology way before like I have Sony Xperia Z and it has a face recognition and the Samsung galaxy S2 had this feature as well.
Before Apple announces iPhone X, no one knew Apple will do that feature because all the people were talking about Apple will embed the finger print under the display. Well in June xperiablog posted an article saying that Sony is doing this type of technology but not the way apple did.
Here is the prove http://www.xperiablog.net/2017/06/27/sony-testing-3d-facial-recognition-on-xperia-phones/
Anonymous, 07 Oct 2017I'm still wondering if facial recognition is a secure option. It depends on the implementation of course... Apples implementation in iPhone X is alot different from anything else currently on the smartphone market.
I'm still wondering if facial recognition is a secure option.
But one things for sure whatever apple do and makes it good or improved upon or did everyone follows to suit just follower the leader nah n just your mouth and with out apple they won't have any real great device out here....
It's true I hate that face id b.s. rather touch id and I felt like face unlock was to be a secondary option to under screen touch id having two ways to unlock but they give us this I really want the x but feel like this is more a tester device for the mass and then next year u going see the real deal..... but if Samsung does the under the display or Google HTC does it with that full display no bezels it will be very well be my switch over to have android phone as my flagship and daily driver...... I was really hoping they did it but better they had stick with it n let the phone lunch next year pre orders Nov or Dec and sale Dec n January 2018 I would of still prefer that n give us the 8 n 8 plus with a new design or a larger LCD screen at less or super LCD with a full or almost full display.......
Anonymous, 07 Oct 2017Apple did NONE of those first......So what did apple do first and second who change or really made the smart phone game really main stream with certain tech??? 64bit is one for start really give the company credit when is due Samsung or none of them change the game like how apple change the smart phone game n the experience they who really made the way and others did better especially when jobs had die and ppl rate Samsung but that company made the most set of gimmicky phones ever with those air gestures no one ever use and it's not even here today.....
Under screen fingerprint, waiting for you. Same for over-camera transparent screens.
Besides front 3D sensing I would like also back one. Camera in screen would be great too, would mean end of weird looking video/call-s. I think apple got the idea.
Noooooo. No one cares about face ID. No one wants to hold their phone up to their face to unlock it! Its because apple is doing it, that its popular. face id has been around and no one cared for it. People don't even care about Siri anymore. just do finger print on the screen!

Perhaps, just perhaps, facial recognition has not matured enough and may still have too big a room for improvement as opposed to fingerprint or iris recognition
AnonD-684709, 07 Oct 2017So true. After Apple was too incompetent to get the under-glass fingerprint scanner to work, t... moreOf course they didn't switch to Face Id as a last resort. Apple bought the company making the Microsoft Kinect back in 2013. For sure this is something they have been working on for a long time, not something they thought of in the last couple of month. If you believe it is then you have no idea how product development on this level works :)
AnonD-656673, 07 Oct 2017Because no fingerprint. First you'll have to press the lock key, then face the phone according... moreI used face unlock most of the time with my op1 on kitkat and it work much better than what apple demonstrated on stage. Just double tap screen then boom unlock. You're right apple has no choice but to use half-baked feature. They need to rush out for the tenth anniversary phone otherwise its doesn't mean anything.

All that with the discretion of patents, licenses, royalty fees, or outsources and by flooding marketing ads, what have we? Similar tech of different implementations (or would you have preferred: different tech of similar implementations?)
AnonD-449300, 07 Oct 2017Lolololo copy from apple ???
Hello apple is million dollar copycat company, everytime they ... moreFor good or bad Apple is the trendsetter in smartphone industry, they bought back FP sensor from dead, bought 64bit processor by surprise, ditched 3.5mm jack, and now ditched FP sensor in their top of the line product.
Since iPhone 7 rumour started, many OEMs ditched 3.5mm jack without any reason but to follow apple's trend. This year going to be worse.
AnonD-684709, 07 Oct 2017So true. After Apple was too incompetent to get the under-glass fingerprint scanner to work, t... moreI think the reason no one making the underdisplay FP sensor is because of Qualcomm and their expensive licencing, and that's why everyone trying to make their own version of that without infringing Qualcomm's patent.
Does anybody think Apple going to licence any others' tech?! They even cut off 3.5mm jack which barely cost them.
LG superfan, 07 Oct 2017How is it a step back?Because no fingerprint. First you'll have to press the lock key, then face the phone accordingly, then swipe up to open the phone, where fingerprint was a one press go.
It doesn't matter how other OEM will implant this but it's the hassle that I'm saying as step backward. Android have face unlock since ICS (OK, different tech, it's not about that) but ask anyone who've used this ever!
iPhone X is a half-baked phone, it wasn't ready but they had no choice.
Hopefully they will also copy Apple and make truly all-screen phones just like the iPhone X, and not just reduce bezels by 2mm and call their phone "bezel-less".
Fingerprint sensor underneath the screen is pretty cool and I'm fine with it. 3D Facial Recognition technology on smartphones is not really much practical. You need to bring your face in front of the sensors and camera each time to unlock your phone and in certain low light conditions, it may not work properly. Fingerprint sensor unlocking method is much better than facial recognition, in my opinion..
