Man HTC is fxxxed up this time for good! look at the amount of comments they got in just one day here! they deserve it, i still remember how they treated us Hero users, and i am not for one bit surpriced now! and i am glad i went to samsung in my second android! and my next phone would be a sonyericsson or a sammy for sure!
Install CyanogenMod 7 -> enjoy your Gingerbread Android operating system.
htc salsa, wildfire s and chacha has 512mb internal memoery and they can run gingerbread. desire has 576mb how can it can't run GB. Just for marketing purposes they r not giviving this update. Because it will affect the sale of desire S, salsa and wildfire s .No more htc phone for me .bye Htc

Well yes actually. Thats what we purchase the hardware for. Just because I buy a PC from Dell that is one generation before the current one doesn't mean I cannot upgrade from XP or Vista to 7. What I also find suprising is that it has taken them so long to annouce this. I consider this nothing less than a lie so they can make you update your hardware. What happens if you are only half way through a 24 month contract!? Frankly HTC are being arrogant and complacent and regard users as an infurating nuisance. Not a problem. LG, Samsung etc are more than happy to take them!

if the above answers are yes, which they should be on froyo then what is the problem? if youre that depserate for 2.3 root and flash it.
I really would like to see people get it out of there heads that they have a god given right to an updates on older near obsolencent items, you bough the handset near to its point of retirement hence its cheapness, be glad you dont build pcs

6 month ago HTC announce that HTC Desire will get Gingerbread 2.3. This is the reason I get this phone.I'm only a student and not working so HTC Desire is a cheaper alternative, because Samsung Galaxy S is very expensive. Now I don't even dare to tell this news to my father!! HTC you promise us but you break your promise! This is sad very sad.Make me loss confidence
Clearly, as others Have already Said, a cheap marketing move to increase sales on it's newborn desire S. HTC Have gone from best to worst in terms of supporting it's customers.
Still, after all these months since the confirmation on the update, one would think they should've come up with a better excuse. Why Not blame global warming instead? It's validity is almost the same
suddenly SE X10 looks so much better :) SE at least listens to its fans and high-end phone owners. btw. these phones were released about the same time. Just few more weeks and 2.3.3 for X10 is here I guess, making it a top-notch phone again.. ;)
This is very unfortunate, and it's one of the reasons when I recently upgraded I chose to stick with Samsung and not HTC - after being burned with the Hero a few years ago, Sense is taking its toll - there are so many free UIs out there, that, in my opinion easily rival or even beat Sense - yet having such a thing prevents updates...
Touchwiz is admittedly pretty poor - but in a click you can get rid of it and enjoy multiple updates AND a fantastic UI..
HTC really need to get on top of this, otherwise they're going to lose a LOT of fans...
Disappointment and anger, this is what I feel right now about HTC. I will never buy a new HTC again and I would never recommend it to anyone. Those of you who are thinking of buying a new HTC smartphone of the S series please don't do so because you will face the same HTC policy in the future when the next version of android will be released.
i am glad that i went for nexus s(indian version) its just 20k at flipkart and running android 2.3.4 and will always be upto date. and by the way HTC marketing strategy sucks big time.
guys does this mean that nexus is also not getting gingerbread?? it doesnt have sense so they should be able to fit it right??
I talked to HTC worker online via HTC support center about update on HTC desire and he told me that there will be an update to gingerbread.Maybe he lied to me I don't know I'll talk to them again today.
I am a HTC user for 5 years now. (previously HTC Touch and now desire ) I bought HTC Desire 6 months back after they gave the confirmation about the update. (i would have gone for galaxy s). Now this ***** news.
Bye Bye HTC. I will never get HTC phone again or recommend it.
I am HTC desire user. It is really bad news for me as I want to upgrade my desire. I do not beleive the story of short of memory casued the upgrade issue. It is all about of HTC marketing plan. But I do not like HTC lie to us about the truth.
Yes, HTC just wants us to buy another new phone for gingerbread, But for me, the new phone will not be HTC anymore.
