The cyclops design is a complete no-no to me, not to mention the unreasonable price, while the regular iPhone 8 design is now outright archaic. There needs to be a reasonable, normal iPhone 9 that's something in between next year. If there isn't, I think Apple lost it.
The best iPhone in 2018 is...drumroll...
..... the iPhone 6S Plus (128GB)!
Because it offers that extra screen estate which actually improves the user experience from an iPhone SE or iPhone 8.
Also has lots of storage (128GB) and memory (2GB).
It has a no nonsense matte-textured Aluminium construction which means its less slippery, leading to far less drops, and when (not if) dropped it will barely survive unlike the extra fragile iPhone 8/X models and the Galaxy S8/Note8 models.
Also you get an excellent quality screen, fingerprint button, good processor, 2GB RAM, 3D Touchscreen, and decent battery life. Not to mention the 3.5mm aux port.
And you get all that for around 1/3 the price of the new models.
What you miss out on?
IP68 ingress protection, this is a big one.
Fast Charging, also a big one in my books.
OLED/Always-on screen, exclusive to the Ten model.
Better speakers, this one's a mixed bag, I think its big but most people don't use it.
Better cameras, again the 6S Plus camera is decent.
Faster processor, well the 6S Plus performance is great (think roughy QSD 835).
Battery life, the S8 Plus is better but not by a big margin.
Wireless charging, not that important yet.
Obviously, the things it does well... well, it does them well.
And the things it doesn't do, I simply don't think they are worth paying x3 the cost (or more, if you want the iPhone X).
I say the same thing about the Samsung S7 and LG G6... sure, they aren't as good as the S8+ and the V30... but they're almost as good, but I can buy them for around 1/2 the price so it doesn't make sense to get the newer models from a value perspective. But I wouldn't tell anyone in 2017 to get the LG G5 or the Samsung S6, they're actually much worse, so from a value perspective are worse than the LG G6/S7. Just like that, in 2018 I wouldn't recommend anyone get an iPhone SE/6/6 Plus/6S... they're not as good as the 6S Plus, and they're much worse than the iPhone 8 models.
they will do it next year, and name it a new way to use that area.. I am sticking with my 6s plus too.. theres a good reason apple didnt ditch it
Moral of the story:
You should avoid Apple, because it keeps on making questionable decisions.
Anonymous, 29 Oct 2017Misinformation at its worst. This phone was hardly ever released.
And yes, I privatel thoug... moreIt's not misinformation. I never said it was released, and the link I included should have cleared all of that up. I never said you were lieing either. The word I used was "incorrect". Calm down.
You are correct in saying that the McLaren was never made available to the public (it's in the video), I was just illustrating that someone else had the technology before. That's all.
gollygeewillikers, 29 Oct 2017This article could have covered the "bigger picture" (no pun intended) around "bezel-less" and... moreMi Mix did it right (the orginal)
The film industry standard aspect ratio (so no black bars when watching movies)
1:9 was used for buttons (so no black bars in youtube/games either).
Everybody else failed, I agree. Width is more important than height in screen dimensions...
Anonymous, 29 Oct 2017You can't run out of ideas if you steal them...Everybody in the industry stills.
You run out of ideas when you don't even do that. And i am sorry but iphone 4 through 8 was 95% performance increases and exceptionally minor thing. Iphone X is the real 3rd iphone (first the orginal, second iphone 4 and now iphone X)
Stinger430, 29 Oct 2017You're incorrect. Nokia had 3D touch years ago with the so-called Nokia McLaren. Check out tha... moreMisinformation at its worst. This phone was hardly ever released.
And yes, I privatel thought of a capacity phone in 1990s ... is the idea mine? Do companies copied me? No?
Producing sth in a mass scale setting *is* producing the feature. Apple is first in that, you cannot change history.
I do not even like Apple, since iphone 4 never had any other of her products, but I do not feel the need to lie. Why lie? Imstead try to emulate what is best about Apple.
Alien , 29 Oct 2017I'm not obsessed with this new bezeless trend. Mainly because the bezeless phones are so very ... moreOnce again, it is not about looks: arguably the cyclops phone is the worst looking of all.
It is about practicality. It's having a pocketable phablet. I am sorry but iphone plus wasn't. I would have to throw out half my warddrobe to carry it with me...
Skipping iPhone 7 is a smart choice I guess. I have an iPhone 7 plus since January and paint has peeled off from two places near Apple logo and there are multiple pittings on the back plate. Needless to say quality control has taken a hit in Apple as well.
The cutout should be useful all the times.. Like if watching Youtube, put the media control there...browsers, put the control there.. But no, Apple don't do it like that... And that is why Apple just lost a customer here..
Chaostheory, 29 Oct 2017IPhone 8 doesn't even support gigabit download speeds, how much do you want to bet the X doesn... moreWhere you need gigabit download speed? Only use i see for that is torrents, you can't download torrents with iPhone.
IPhone 8 doesn't even support gigabit download speeds, how much do you want to bet the X doesn't either. Reminds me of the 4s without LTE. This is a must have feature!
Apples reputation was because of the "innovation". Or because of that it didn't follow other brands and trends (or to b precise, act like not following others but then catching up 2 to 3 years later).
But iPhone X doesn't fit in both criteria.
It copied (or adopted at best) bezelless trend, and to look like ahead of the curve than others, went with the awkward looking cut out. Not that xiaomi couldn't do that, they just knew difference between sober and flashy. and what else is new in that iPhone? faster processor? I fans always used to say "that much of power is unnecessary" anyway, lighter (or less feature) OS will run smoother than a more complex (more features) OS on the same hardware, ignoring the fact that cross platform comparison of benchmarks isn't correct. So still, what is the use of that much of power on a feature phone os?
They always said wireless charging a gimmick, finally adopted it like all other things they made fun of and then adopted a couple of years later, like quad core, more cores, bigger screens, (when we said our 5" Androids are the same size as their 6s, they said "bigger screen is impractical for one handed use even if the overall size is same, also that there must be some bezels for easy operation"
I don't see all those ppl anywhere now.
