Samsung is infamous for it's bad software. But at least they fix most of cases. That's why most reasonable time to buy Samsung phones half of year after release. Or more. Early adopters are always beta testers for this company.

On a more serious note (pun intended), this isn't really good for Samsung. In comparison, the XZ1's software problems are more or less an issue with Oreo and not Sony's software.
If Samsung's more stable Nougat software on their current very best device is quite unstable, I can't imagine how will they do with Oreo.
Maybe this is one of the reasons why it takes them a very long time to upgrade their phones to the more latest version of Android.

Next year, maybe LG, HTC, Huawei, Xiaomi, and other competitors are gonna release their smartphones with Oreo out of the box, while the S9 series would come out with Nougat.

Kind of the opposite of the last year's Note.
Has stopped burning phones, to the point that they're freezing instead.

And here I am with my brand new superfast, supersmooth Huawei Mate 9, laughing at greedy Samsung for turning the once prestigious Note series into a horrible joke. Glad I jumped ship after the Note Edge which together with the Note 4 was the last of Titans.

I have seen several related posts about this, but in some cases the devices affected are gray market ones, in some cases in an attempt to switch carriers o when trying to activate services non available in the countries of origin the, some users flash csc files or entire firmwares
