Anonymous, 01 Nov 2017seems like many of you didnt read the article their sales are rising which means they sell mo... moreThey sold 3.4 mill phones as to 3.5 mill in Q2 of 2016.
Its less, but on level...
Sales were up as to Q2 2016 by 1.9%, so also on level....
Its a stale actually, no worse, but no better also.

Why the Operating profit drop in Q2 tho....we can only speculate.
Extra RnD for 2018 portfolio costs most probably.

But 2016Year on 2017Year projection is a stale too with overall 5 bill yen operating profit for Mobile.

So, its a stale for Sony M

Sony Fanboy Bitches, 01 Nov 2017They aren't making their smartphones the best because it would hurt their other departments in... moreIn a way you are agreeing to the fact that Sony isn't taking mobile business seriously. Why worry about mobiles when every best smartphone and even many DSLRs out there uses Sony's own camera sensors(which bring better results out of those than what Sony does in its own smartphones), which is more profitable than making a stellar smartphone. I doubt whether any phone camera can match RX100's quality, the present mobile cams and the future. Even Sony doesn't think it's possible to put a RX100 in a body of 8mm smartphone. I think you are an overenthusiastic fan of Sony, who just thinks and believes Sony can do the impossible. Coming back to smartphones, Sony has to rehash their complete strategy like better designs, better camera and image processing for their own Xperia brand of phones, abandon low and mid end segments and just concentrate on flagships and provide a punch worthy of its brand value(it enjoys in non-mobile segments).

The design is flawless, but hey, it got bezels, so its a worse phone than bezeless in their heads...
For them minds mere existance of bezels make: camera worse, sound not good, screen bad, performance worse, features gimmicky, ...you name it, anything is worst or crap compared to any bezeless phone.
      Sheep mentality....

wooty, 01 Nov 2017Serves them right. They truly believe that by keeping some dramatic changes such as lockscreen... moreStill at one point, Sony was right making a compact phone with powerful / flagship specs for 5 years since Xperia V, ZR and Z1 Compact that other companies failed or hadn't to do it since then such as Samsung and LG. Even Apple hasn't make a decision to plan a successor to (5)SE since this year. It could at least help Sony because there's some people around the world who like small phones less than 5' but with powerful specs.

Anonymous, 01 Nov 2017Then all phones will be the same. Just different brandsNot really, if you've tried to use Xperia phone the user interface is different. Xperia UI is my favorite apart from Nova launcher UI. They have the most rich and beautiful music player in a phone.

King xperia, 01 Nov 2017 Sony is NEVER going to give up on there mobile division, EVER. Smartphone biz is one of ... moreHopefully someone from sony mobile division (ceo or management see this post) what they need to do now . In my opinion , what they need to do now is first they need to copy back the chinese brand... what they offer for lets says in a $300 usd phone... they can sell lets says for $350 or $400... due to higher brand status and quality... instead of what they r doing now... also selling for $300 but give lower quality like mtk, plastic back and no fingerprint sensor which i think kick alot customer away from buying sony phone... they should instead follow what samsung phone is doing...

second , their decision to defocus in asian country and focus on europe n latin is wrong..causing significant drop in sales amount.... they do this because they think the market is saturated with china brand and they dont have a chance... instead they should focus more to win in asian market because if u can win in it in asian market u can win everywhere hahahahaa...

Anonymous, 01 Nov 2017Lazy Company with lazy designs. I'm not saying they should be Bezelless but almost everyon... moreBack in the day, I almost ordered a Z2 when it was released. One visit to a phone store to test it in real life and I was happy for not pre-ordering it (didn't like the UI or especially design). XDA-Developers still have a topic for Z2's batch-related issues (gaps around the screen and cameras, offset cameras, etc... All these things Sony's quality-control must think were fine in a flagship). People on this site claimed I lied, then posted links, someone said "it's a old model now, nobody cares anymore". Problem: all that happened when the Z2 was new.

Also read that the Z3-series quite often needs fixing up for failed display-glue (like after a year of use) -> resulting into the screen popping off. Today I read some guy had to have his Z3c fixed 4 times for the screen popping off, he mentioned this in the comment-section of a Finnish review for the new XZ1 and also said this had developed a PTSD towards Sony.
YouTube even has some videos about it happening. Must be staged videos, or the phone being too old now?

Every phone model/brand has its own faults, but come on - having it fixed 4 times for the same reason should make the problem stay away. One thing I frequently hear about Sony's after-sales services; pretty much non-existent in here, as if they don't really care about that stuff. Nice way to treat people who paid top-dollar for their phones.

                        Their phones blur together nowadays.
They've got to change their design up.

And, for heaven's sake, work with Sony's camera division!
They could make the ultimate Camera Phones, if they made the effort. It's madness that they aren't doing this.

Combine an Xperia with an RX100. I would buy the hell out of that. A bit thicker, a big camera bump for the optical zoom. And a 1 inch sensor.

                        Sigh. My dream phone.

With that current design of theirs compared to other new flagships, definitely not a surprise. Actually I'd be surprised if it was the opposite (like it was supposed to be, as far as I care to remember reading some news about it).

While I don't like or care about their phones much, I'm looking to buy one of their TV's in the future. Sony's TV's are pretty much the only products which actually manage peak my interest enough to actively consider buying. :-)

i just picked up the XZ1C and sure it's plain but it's a good looking device, and no thrills but no awkward glass back to crack and shatter, and no awkward expensive curved glass front, the only main issues with their devices are the screen resolutions as 720p and 1080p on a flagship is pretty dated.

though yes, this is a mistake from Sony in the short term at least as its obvious people favor form over function right now, and a specific form at that, and you're absolutely right there.

from a purely technical and pragmatic usage pov though I find the Sony phones to make a lot of sense.
