I can't understand how anyone could think notches or cutouts are a good design idea to follow. Even the narrowest cut into the screen effectively renders the entire height of the notch useless because content can't be reliably displayed in that space - functionally it's the same as filling the whole space with a bezel regardless of how thin the notch is. If you really want to have as much "active" screen space as possible, it would be much more elegant to make a slim top bezel that contains an LG-esque ticker/always on display plus the camera, earpiece etc.

If you are watching a video the notch is a huge distraction unless you watch with black bars either side and ruin the whole point of a big screen, it's madness, complete and utter madness. If it was such a great idea we would all be watching tv's with a chunk taking out of it. There is a reason that screens are normally the shape they have been........ the notch is a complete distraction.
Yeah you will stand out from the crowd and people will notice it including thieves but it serves no purpose whatsoever other than to highlight the fact that they would of had to of went with bigger bezel at the top to incorporate face scanner and they wanted to compete with bezel-less phones on the market. It's lame and I would rather see an end to rushing out phones left right and centre that have questionable designs. That is not aimed at Apple but all manufacturers really.
All my opinion of course but I'm absolutely amazed that many are defending it!

Well,Xiaomi if you`re really going to do this..it`ll be horrible.
Maybe it`ll be better that you invent another ´notch´(or pair of horns) but on the bottom side,on the south...that way you`ll achieve some consistence in that `beautiful` design,you can call it `stereo notch` or `stereo horns`...
Or that new phone should be called iMix 2,or better Mi Minger..

Fusion, 08 Nov 2017Well if you cant beat Apple you might as well copy them..BTW it did beat Apple. Mi Mix 1 was the best phone from 2016. If you except the camera everything else was the best of its time. Heck some still are. The only bezeless (to this day) with gargantuan battery, the only one that is not tall as well and bezeless *actually* means a bigger screen for the same size instead of a taller screen that is only useful while messaging.
Mi Mix 1 is still one the best phones to own (if you don't care about photography), far better in use than most bezeless phones out there...

I just don't understand it. MiMix 1 is probably (*still*) the best bezeless phone (best BtS ratio without sacrificing battery) yet even her inventor abandoned its form. All we get these days are skinny phones with pitiful battery...

That convinced me that my last Xiaomi phone is really the last Xiaomi phone for me. This notch thing is so ugly it makes me sick, Samsung flagship phones are the way to go.
