Because they know some people buy the phones just for their looks and not necessarily need the most powerful internals.. Samsung is very accomodating to their customer unlike Apple warning app developers against hiding the notch

I have a better solution to get rid of the notch...get a Pixel 2 ...and then you will have many other problems.

Absolutely, I don't want spend my $1000 for this Notch, why Apple inventing The Notch for smartphone industry, while no other brand invented such Notch like that, Sharp Aquos or Essential phones looks more reasonable for me.

Hey guys you forget to say app that erase this so called notch or horns is costly like another 1350 same price like phone :-) and if you pay 150 more you can turn its color to whathewer you want :-)

i dont know why people are complaining about the notch, its going to be the iconic symbol now of the iphone like it was for the circle home button. essential phone has that iconic look the small circle at the top, while the xiaomi mix has that little chin at the bottom with the selfie cam. its only samsung that makes their flagship phone looks like their mid to low end phones

This is so funny.
Makes it more ugly imo. I detest asymmetry. And making the top part of the screen almost completely black makes the phone look like it has a top bezel.
