Optical zoom in a smartphone still have it limitations. How about adopting the 100MP to crop the zoom image out?

blue.sun, 14 Nov 2017If You prefer one good camera, then buy a real camera, not the phone. What if smartphone camera satisfies my every-day use, and I don't want to carry anything in excess. There used to be a time, when mobile phones started getting cameras, that I'd really would have preferred one without, now there isn't an option.

It only means that they used 5 glass lens stacked with 4 plastic lens.. Which is better than iPhone 8/X 6 plastic lens sandwich.. What? You didn't know your $1000 phone uses cheap plastic lens? If they'd use expensive high quality lens they would happily advertise it such as Huawei with quality LEICA glass lens or NOKIA with Zeiss

And size... And weight... And time. The most meaning - the time. Your phone is always with you. Better to catch a moment on good cphone camera rather than miss it because your perfect dslr at home or in bag.

U-sir, 14 Nov 2017if the lens focusing distance is variable it would be awesome. if it was a fixed 5X zoom, what for? It should be variable ,otherwise they wouldn't say: "The lens will have aspherical glass lens piece and four plastic ones" which means they have 5 lenses, an original one and 4 lenses for zoom

But honestly I never saw 2X optical zoom as much of an advantage, the quality decrease of slower speeds and lower quality is rarely worth it, except for very good lighting (daylight mostly)
But still 5X seems like a bit on an over-kill, it still would be more impressive than 2X, if stabilized well.
Maybe a 3X lens would be a good compromise, but either way, I'd prefer 1 good camera, than 2 mediocre ones.
