Well priced backup phone. cause, backups are for reliability and the brand 'Nokia' has always stood for that. Nokia 2 as a cheap backup makes sense. Good move Nokia.

With $100-110 I can buy brand new phone with 2GB ram, 16GB rom, 4100mah, and sd4xx or better mediatek than sd2xx. Or with $110 I can get secondhand sony z3+ still in good condition like new.

I initially jumped on the "Nexus 5" boat because I LOVED my Nexus 5, however you do make a good point. Especially if you're not willing to update the phone yourself with a custom rom. I still don't recommend it... I think the moto g5 is the most "budget" phone people should get but if you NEED a BRAND new phone for under $100 then this is a pretty sweet gig.

A used good condition iPhone 5s/Galaxy S4/HTC One M7/Nexus 5/Xperia Z1 OR a new Nokia 2, I repeat NOKIA 2 (!). And be honest.

In USA you can buy Moto e4 from 70$ (verison locked) or 100$ with ads (unlocked) from Amazon. Or Moto E4plus for 99.99 (boost locked)
