To steal a smartphone's contents, one just has to steal the phone. Offcourse its easier to get the biometric data (fingerprint, facial data etc) than beating the password out of the person, but passwords can be cracked (there are plenty tools for that). So biometric authentication is more secure, wouldn't you say so...

Anonymous, 29 Nov 2017Yah right! Not half-baked and gimmicky like Bixby.U mean Siri. For something that started out so much earlier, it still can't do anything.
Vegetaholic, 28 Nov 2017This is the useful feature not gimmicky face ID on a phone without convenient FPSYah right! Not half-baked and gimmicky like Bixby.

AnonD-710493, 29 Nov 2017perhaps you should learn a bit more about biometrics before commenting on it....He has the point. though.
Your fingerprint, your face (image of face , which can be use later make fake face and unlock your device), your DNA too can be obtained and that can be done without your knowledge.
The same can't be said to passwords, which are stored in your mind and need Rubber-hose cryptanalysis for outsider to get.
In biometrics I would better trust iris scanners. Eyes can't be scanned from long distances (with current technology). It's more difficult.
So that would mean the fingerprint can be scanned anywhere on the screen, or at least on several locations? And they use that to make a 'shortcut' to certain items that require (extra) authentication? Smart!
AnonD-710493, 29 Nov 2017get help... Why? I'm not the sapple sheep who can't see the truth. You are the one who need to be helped, away from the apple and Samsung herds.
They should bring it definitely to beat apple.
Samsung innovation : Fingerprint under screen.
Apple innovation : removing 3.5mm Jack.
which leaves the question - how does the fingerprint sensor work - because touch and pressure are already separately included.
This is a good news coz I have wait for it very long time.. Can unlock phone at anywhere you tab finger on screen and compared to current one where need to tab finger at specific place/location..
Zenodroid, 28 Nov 2017Not the first, second, third or fourth time. get help...

You know they even go as far as registering in different countries to avoid tipping competitors off. The likelyhood of a company as big as samsung with patent troll apple as their biggest competitor releasing something as "patent pending" is zero to none.

What matters is the application date, not approval. Their specific implementation would still be protected even if someone else got to market first, so long as Samsung /filed/ first.
I like the fingerprint under glass on the front, hopefully other oems follow suit. Good for Samsung in keeping r&d in that area and not giving up.
Raj, 28 Nov 2017I understand .. Bye bye headphone jack ..Lol, it's going to keep the headphone jack
