I read the article. Its says patent approved. Nothing more, nothing less. Nothing near any tech product or implementation.
Mention of S9 in context is just writers wishfull thinking.
It takes much more from patent to implementation than a couple of months, more like a year or two minimum...
Btw, hardly scratch, Vivo presented qualcomms one on prototype already

The patent only got accepted today, they aren't going to release something without a patent and open themselves to being sued or have tech stolen. Other companies have been working on this for awhile but none of it's up to scratch that's why apple compromised with faceid and that aweful notch.

Most important thing preventing me from upgrading to a note 8 is the really mediocre speaker .I am used to the really loud and clear speaker of the note 4(even if placed in the wrong direction), I actually use the loudspeaker a lot .

These under screen fp scanner patents have been around since 2011....Sony, Vivo, Qualcomm, Apple...
Qualcomm and Vivo even presented them live on prototypes.
But on real smartphones Nada still...
Its just patents, 90% of them never see light of day...
And most certainly wont make it to S9 in some 3 months time...

Sorry to ruin your day but S9 won't have underscreen fps, S9 will be very boring upgrade and i see big problems for Samsung

I see a really good future for the S9 and S9+, one of the first phones in 2018 with new features, temporal exclusivity of SD 845 plus the equivalent Exynos, and variants more diferenciated with second camera and bigger battery in the S9+ and more economical the S9 one.
