Expandable storage/microSD is one of the big things of Android phones I like. It's also usually cheaper to get a lower storage spec/phone, and get a nice SD card for ~$20...instead of paying sometimes $100 more for that(*cough*, Apple).
64 gb with micro SD addition is enough, good for apps, game, photo/video and music, but if want more 128 gb or even 256 gb additional, but 128 gb with micro SD additional maybe it is the best, but course it should have at least with RAM 4 gb or more.
AnonD-643743, 03 Dec 2017sounds like a Xperia X dual. Is it?Nah it's a cheaper Huawei from last year. This year even the low-mid range has been crippled with the hybrid slots. Nothing surprising really. Once a ridiculous trend starts, in never stops until it's 100% rammed down our throats, like non-removable batteries and soon lack of 3.5mm jack (And 18:9/6 displays).

As for the 128GB versions, most phones either don't have one or it has limited availability on the market. And of course it's more expensive because you have to buy the storage again with the next phone, which is not the case with the SD card (It will easily outlast at least two phones, even 3-4)
Anonymous, 03 Dec 2017Could it be because they actually use more space than that? Like me with my 16GB (10GB) intern... moreMust be a slow phone you have. With the ufs 2.1 and newer, you need to use the expensive sd cards. Unless you want to slow down the phone. And for the same amount of money, you can get double up on inner storage. Mp3 is dead, so you don't need the music on the phone. And you can stream your porn, like others do. That's just a bad excuse you have.
My personal needs are 64GB on board for apps, and a SD card for multimedia. Right now 128GB SD card is enough, but it's easy to add more :)
the problem is not how much does it enough for us, but it size of an application lately that growing bigger and bigger than previous years. in next 2 years, I would believe a facebook app would be about 1 gigs with its updates (in comparison 300s MB this year and just 80s MB 2 years ago).
Anonymous, 03 Dec 2017On my last phone I had 16GB and I didn't fill it up. Now I have 32GB and I wont see a day when... moreSame usage scenario here. But I voted '256GB or more' for the sake of pushing technology and things so they all technically get cheaper by the soonest generation
For me 32 gb is more than enough. I barely use more than 15 gb thanks to google photos and o2 free.
The options in the poll seem irrelevant. You can't get the real life practical advantages of having a micro sd card (like for taking a quick local backup or transferring files from a camera to your phone on the go without having the need to connect to a computer system) from having 256 Gb on the internal storage.
Also if the phone breaks down then it's very difficult to get the data on the internal memory back. Even if you have a broken charging port, the service centre guys will most probably wipe and reset your device first. Keeping music, pictures and other important files on the micro sd card is a lifesaver in such a scenario. Apps can be easily downloaded again but losing your music and photo collection is more of a heartbreak.
Playing music locally is always better than using a streaming service as it requires less battery and is not dependent on the network.
I'm using 64Gb + 64Gb on my S8. The read/write speed of the Stontium Class 10 UHS 3 card is good enough. Used about 95 Gb out of the total. Strontium gives lifetime warranty on their cards unlike Sandisk which gives 5-6 year warranty so it's much easy to resell them and reduce the memory upgrade cost. I'm will eventually sell this 64 Gb card and switch to a 128 Gb card like I sold my earlier 32Gb one and got this 64 Gb card.
I think 64 Gb of internal is enough for Apps right now even if you keep 10 big games like San Andreas or Mortal Kombat X at the same time in your phone, although I don't think anyone plays all 10 games at once. I personally play and finish a game and delete it. A few online games like mortal Kombat x, mini militia and ludo have been there for a while.
If my phone is working good then I don't want to buy a new phone just because I'm running out of memory. I'd rather just upgrade my memory card.
I don't like using cloud storage for photos as I don't trust them and it's a hassle to upload all the stuff. I'd rather just connect my phone to the system every once in while and take a backup.
Not having a memory card is a deal breaker for me. If surely need all the practical features like a headphone jack and card slot when I'm selecting a phone. Iphone should have a card slot and headphone jack then only I would consider buying it but then the iOS ecosystem is too restricted for my use. It's sad to see that even Android manufacturers are ditching the practical features.
AnonD-188372, 03 Dec 2017Every bloody device should have an sd card slot.. Stuff Google and its stupid ideas on "secur... moreSD slots cause too many problems with people buying crap slow memory for their phones, also its slower than the internal memory.
Zenodroid, 03 Dec 2017Not even 10.000 terabyte would be enough for the cry babies out there. If the phone have 64/12... moreCould it be because they actually use more space than that? Like me with my 16GB (10GB) internal storage+64GB sd card.
I have 5GB used space with apps, 5GB free space for downloading, video recording etc and 48GB of music on my SD card. So a 64GB phone is definitely not enough for me.
The best for me is 64+sd card. I always store music and movies on sd card. Very useful.
I'm a dual sim user and with the idiotic trend of hybrid sim slots and the tons of bloatware (Using 10GB of storage and leaving just 48GB of 64/58) i'd need 128GB, otherwise the phone is useless to me.
I voted for 16-32GB with an SD card, but sadly there are very little dual sim options with an SD slot.
I don't vote since the option I want to choose is not there.
64 or 128 GB plus microSD slot.
On my last phone I had 16GB and I didn't fill it up. Now I have 32GB and I wont see a day when it will be full to. As I have 8GB sd card in my phone as of my music most of it is in there and that 8GB sd card is like 6 years old. If I would use Spotify then I would not need that SD card even. I don't hold important things on my phone for security risk of losing the phone and then lose the needed files. I don't record videos and well not much of a picture taker to and well my phone camera isn't much to. Will do it's job but not with quality. But well none of these things are important for me.
(1) set your camera to lower resolution (2) backup all your 2016 or older whatsapp photos and videos (3) clear your download folder.
