Well Nokia partnership with Microsoft will have a lot of benefits :P
Even can share patents??
So the result is from selling Android phones, Microsoft is the one earning money, not Google. Interesting :-D
AnonD-5197, 06 Jul 2011Ya? Then what's this patent about? The article states " Microsoft believes the Linux-bas... moreyou know.. WP7 is not "free lunch" either... it costs $5, $10 or probably per device... so microsoft really do not need to make WP at all. just cash in from Android sales... Clever! I do not wonder anymore why MS is multi-billion company :-D
I smell a rat....maybe it was a google and microsoft plan all along.
well...what can i say...microsoft is an evil company!

The article states " Microsoft believes the Linux-based operating systems are infringing its intellectual property in some way and Android OS is a Linux-based one."
I know MeeGo is Linux based so I automatically thought that Nokia dropping it had to do with royalties to MS. Even if you hate Elop, he would have done something like that for a reason. If you think otherwise you are welcome to enlighten me. Like I mentioned, I'm no expert, but I can draw conclusions from what I know so far. I'm not kidding myself.
If you think 300 million dollars in royalty from Samsung to MS for last quarter's 19 million Android devices sales alone is "not that much use" then you're an idiot.
Warren-G, 06 Jul 2011This is going to reduce manufacturer's love for android. Its business. If it goes trough then yes.I belive that might be Microsoft´s plan to begin with
This is going to reduce manufacturer's love for android. Its business.
MS thinks they are Nokia LOL royalties for WHAT?
AnonD-6077, 06 Jul 2011Erm, I don't think that's quite right. Don't know who's law you are quoting but I really do t... moreI am no lawyer so i am not 100% sure of what i was saying but i belive i read it somewere. It also makes sense tough(at least to me) that if you are not directely profiting from ,lets say, downloading a movie or a song online then you can not be held acountable for anything.and it is the same thing with Google in this case.Of course one could also claim,as you said, that Microsoft is being lazy and wants to take the easy road.but again without further explanation on how android is exactely infringing the patents i can not say more
is this going to be the only way microsoft earns money now? lmao
Ashura, 06 Jul 2011Acording to the law if you did not sell them yourself, only gave it to others to sell then no y... moreErm, I don't think that's quite right. Don't know who's law you are quoting but I really do think you are breaking the law if you download or pirate something without the intellectual copyright holders permission. It does not make any difference if you are profiting from the sale or not, otherwise people would copy stuff and give it away for free.
Think the analogy is a good one, and I for one really can't see why Microsoft aren't going after Google except perhaps that they would loose too much money and have taken the soft option of trying to squeeze out some royalties. The post says they can't touch Google because they are not directly profiting? I suggest you check your law books again..

D79_, 06 Jul 2011how embarrassing for apple and now microsoft, samsung does well so apple decide to sue now and... moreCouldn't have put it better myself.
Graz, 06 Jul 2011I think Microsoft are jealous that Windows phone is sinking and Android is getting more and mo... morei don't think that this is about a jealousy.. if they can make a profit from one of their, should i say "rival", in this phone's selling business, i mean why not? it's just business. get over it..
To comments of Ashura & joonius that microsoft has patent for Linux-kernels and MeeGo is based on that and Microsoft , you must be kiding . Do you know who programed linux who has all patents for them . First check about what you want to write and then write it down , don't lie to yourself what is the reason of lawsuits. It isn't that much usage of patents but selling products and gaining market. So Microsoft wants to slow down samsungs and htc development of cell phones based on Android . For Meego ther is Microsoft guy called Elop who doesn't want to sell something that is probably going to beat wp7 so they in contract or agreemant probbly said to focus on WP7 if u want our money. Simple as that.
Makes sense for me
AnonD-5197, 06 Jul 2011Does this explain why MeeGo is no-fly for Nokia? Because Microsoft holds patent for Linux-ker... moreTrue that would make sense.Last think Nokia wants is to be sued by Microsoft over MeeGo.
