Very bad design, good design would be if the touch layer becomes high resolution and photosensitive, not cheap though
When it says " tier 1" it does not mean exactly sales.
It can be a important brand.
Which applies to Samsung, LG, Sony, Motorola and Huawei.

Vivo doesn't classify as a tier 1 manufacturer by a long mile. I too hope it turns out to be Sony as they may be looking to remove the fps from the powerkey to keep the phone slim while bringing a low bezel device next year.
CES is in january.
Samsung shows Galaxy S in march.
Maybe Huawei P11 or Sony XZ1s
I doubt it is G7. Unless it has SD835.

M33, 12 Dec 2017Tier 1 manufacturer will introduce the first phone with the tech at CES 2018. So samsung will introduce this on a production unit like S9? or it will be just a "concept" that will be released later 2018 ? Because since today, we heard Note 9 will have this
Rather than manufacturers rushing to be the first. I want them to concentrate on becoming the BEST. I want things to work 100% with NO compromises and I certainly don't want to end up being part of some kind of Beta. I believe we only got the 'notch' on the IPhone X because the technology was not ready to incorporate FaceID into a smaller bezel ...... So they just cut out a big chunk out of the screen because they were under pressure to come up with something different and gimmicky while competing with their bezel-less rivals just to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the IPhone.....
Great to see how technology advances. I usually prefer fingerprint over faceID on a phone, while I think faceID would be really great on a PC. But having both to choose from on the phone (or use both at the same time to enhance security) is the best.
Typical glass screen protectors are almost a millimeter thick on their own. Either this diagram is not drawn to scale or they are talking about those "film" type protectors used for phones with curved displays.
