Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact is underrated.Sony has smooth UI,fast opening apps and the camera is great.If only Sony would reduce those giant bezzels and made it a 18:9 phone it would have a 5'2 inch screen and FHD screen with option to reduce it to HD.Then it would be the best phone on the market to buy that's compact.
Hopefully they will make another compact phone next year with 18:9 screen and FHD screen.

Compact is by definition size dimension wise. So truly sony and the iPhone are the only compact phones on the list. If there is a phone between s8 size and xperia size but keep a high screen to body ratio like s8 or even greater, then i would consider that the ultimate and final compact phone in terms of size. Just hope the specs are not watered down and instead be beast like sony xperia compacts.

Great thing about xz1c is its not missing anything from their premium package, while others miss either camera/stabilization/... also phablets tend to last longer on battery, but its not true with sony. Also I got to say phone's height can do the most in pockets, wide screens in narrow body is great in hand, but feels like phablet in pocket. Maybe its time to look back at 12€ phones to see what it means being compact, phones were thick as purse but small in width&height.

Xz1 compact is the closest to actually being small, only one I would actually call small around is the SE.

Except iphone 8 and XZ1c , all them have at least 14,3 cm tall.
They are not compact.
In my opinion, compact are shorter than 13,5.
