its possible that Samsung, Sony, LG , HTC does the same to preserve ageing batteries but never admit it because of fan ire. Apple has the guts to publicly admit it.

Public/Press Release: "We're intentionally slowing down older iphones making them just a wee bit slower to extend battery life and extend overall iphone useful life, a testament to our commitment to great value for our customers."

Director's cut: "Let us be clear on our real agenda. We need to generate more profit. The iphone 8 and 8 plus are not selling as well as expected. The iphone X sales is underwhelming. Slowing down older iphones regardless of actual battery wear level will help prop up our lagging sales. Let us make sure the slow down is a very noticeable, excruciating experience so that owners of old iphones will upgrade faster than the speed of light."

Ray, 21 Dec 2017How on the hell can this be good. I've seen a reduction around 65% in the clock frequency. Fr... moreI was curious and searching in internet I found more cases like your and captures with the frequency reduction but in you iPhone is from 1400 Mhz not Hz to 600 Mhz. And I'm agree that no ones should allow that. It's too much. Perhaps you should study if you have the right to request Apple an older firmware. And a lawyer should study if this is susceptible of make a joint lawsuit against Apple.

                        Pathological lying scammers.
They've repeatedly said they don't slow down older phones, even threatening those who claim they have.
Who would have guessed that a company who cheats on taxes, abuse paradise island tax evasion, slave labor, lies in legislator hearings, and everything else would also lie about this? :)

Oh boy, I prefer the usual way so I know when is the time to change the battery. Also, if I change battery not the official way (via apple service), will it reset the counter or still slow down my cpu with new battery?

Jon, 21 Dec 2017So all the benchmark results for Iphones in phone reviews cannot be trusted. Apple probably ov... moreExactly. We should not trust benchmarks anymore because it is pretty easy for companies to cheat on them. Either they overclock their SoCs during benchmark testing to make it appear more powerful than it really is, or they manipulate the scores. Pretty sure that Apple is also manipulating their benchmark scores or overclocking their SoCs to get higher scores, just like all the others.

Just reading the excuses made by the Herd to justify their Favorite Fruits greed makes want to ROFL. They sure have been brainwashed by Apple to believe any pathetic excuse and lie they tell to cover up their BS and shortcomings, as well as its planned obsolescence.

Their battery life for SoT is already mediocre, now they're making a pathetic excuse to cover up their already mediocre battery life.

Bottomline: Companies have no right to meddle with how you use your phone once you purchase it as long as it isn't anything dangerous or illegal. If you want it to run fast despite less battery life then they should.
