Why need to hold the update for so long? I just owned an ZTE Axon 7 a2017u USA set, but but found that battery not last long and GPS not good. The battery easily drain even after full charge, drop 1% in 1 minute initally. While GPS would suddenly lost or not working after using awhile.

There is no two ways about it. It is very late!
But considering that no one actually expected it, it's actually a nice surprise. Realistically though, this translate to Oct 2018 in Malaysia.
Anyway, I hope they remove the video recording cap imposed when we receive Nougat. I am not even talking about 4k but I can't record more than 10 minutes of 720p video now on my Axon 7.

The Oreo update will be coming for the A2017G model in April 2018. The A2017U model will be getting Oreo a lot sooner than April. Other sites claim that the update for April applies to all the variants, but its only for the Global version, not the U.S version

It's not that late. It was launched more than 1.5 years ago and if the update also means a ui overhaul then I'm happy with it.

Disappointment if you take in mind so many brands have beat like Essential, nokia and even Samsung,

Not that late really compared to for example galaxy s8, which is considered best of android. So before you blame ZTE being late, compare it with rest of androids. Only Sony and Nokia have outed oreo as update.
