I had a phone 20-25 years ago and mostly Nokia.
I have had Nokia 4x 2110 , 1x 2010 , 1x 1610 , 1x 3210 , 1x 5110 , 1x 6110 , 1x 5210 , 2x 3310 , 1x 6151 , 1x 520 , 1x 830
Flagship was always Nokia 8xxx series. Like Nokia 8210 or between mid higher end and lower flagship end 7xxx series that flip phone.
3310 was a budget phone lower high end and not as good as mid range like 5110

While labour is cheap, there's other countries where its even cheaper, like in the USA.
Labour could be much cheaper in USA than China when the big companies decide to do the manual tasks by automation/robotics.
When that happens, unemployment is going to skyrocket in China and possibly a civil war/revolution to the government and economy. Unless, the comprehensive automation system is higher quality and it occurs in China instead.

Where was your X-box built? How about your Apple Watch? Both American companies yet they're built in China. Same goes for the Play Station (Japanese company).
How about General Motors, with the upscale Buick Envision? I'll give you a hint, it's not from the US. Not from Canada or Mexico either. It's made in CHINA.
Does this take anything away from the quality of these products? Nope. It's all about finding a reliable partner to actually build the product and FOLLOW the design as it was engineered.
Unfortunately there are some companies... Parrot I'm looking at you, who opt for the "lowest bidder" and grant some creative license to their partners. Which leads to all kinds of headaches for tech support and warranty departments down the road.

It's easiest way to make "nokias" - some china factories will do cheapest phone, hmd global will order them with specific design, mark it as "nokia" and millions of dumbs will buy this crap.
