IF you flash the phablet and it then does not work as intended Google fears that the bad experience may backfire on them, since people might think the phablet is bad or insecure, forgetting that it was their tampering that was the cause.
From the users perspective it is always nice to have options in principle.
...The big question is whether it is a good idea to give uninformed users a choices to do things they might not fully understand the consequences of. This is usually cause for worry in the civilised parts of the world.
Is Verizon giving any promotional price on Pixel 2? At least those bloatwares can be removed now.
